Crap that is fast service (Delta Camshaft). I just got the camshaft a few minutes ago. It looks very nice. Visually the same, but nicer. I'll begin the install tonight when I get home.

TIMELINE:

I mailed the cam by USPS on Thursday. They received it on Monday evening. They worked it over on Tuesday. I received it Wednesday morning.

cool:cheers:

Well my engine is finished and I pick it up on the monday and start putting it together. It looks really sweet.

Now for the cam.... the machine shop already ordered a complete cam kit. That ran me 229usd. It comes with a brand new cam, brand new lifters, new cam bearings, new steel timing gear, etc. I think its a Compu Cam Kit. I think he got this kit from Crower?

Anyway cant wait to get the engine back together and the 62 back on the road.

I just need to do my injectors now. :grinpimp:

Updates???

Give me a bit more time. I don't have a garage so I can only work when it isn't raining. I put the radiator in last night. I still have the trans. cooler and air filter housing to put in.

If it goes well, I may run it tonight, but so far things have been slow and rainy.

I'll update after I drive it.

Can't post an update yet. The shop ordered the wrong pistons. I get home and start staging items for the assembly and open up the box with the pistons. Look down and to my surprise they are domed pistons. The shop is going to order the correct ones and they should be here sometime this coming week. I fully intend to get the 2FE together and into its new home... our 1989 FJ62.

UPDATE #1:

I started the 2F-E with the new cam, it fired right up. The exhaust note sounded a lot different to me. During the break-in 20 minutes I had a rocker arm loosen up (3/8" clearance :)) so I shut it down.

The weekend was too busy to get back into it. I plan on finishing up tonight and maybe tuesday night.

If things work out and I get the pistons back then I hope to have her running this weekend.

That would be super fast!

Have fun with the valve cover!!! That is my number one complaint about the 2F-E.

CAMSHAFT UPDATE:

It's in, the engine runs great and I ran it for the recommended 20 minutes (is this why the cruiser stop watch only goes to 19:59?). It sounds so much different. I have an oil leak to repair before I can drive it.

I'll update after I drive it.

CAMSHAFT UPDATE:

It's in and after some problems, it runs great! There is a noticeable power gain. It revs quicker and 0-40mph is much quicker. The torque is really punchy (I wish I had a 5 speed). I power braked it on the asphalt once for fun just to see.

I'm happy with it!!

It was worth the trouble and time.

I would do it again and go with the Delta Cam.

EDIT:
I'm thinking of looking for a dyno to see what I have now.

Nice! Get it up around 2400+ rpm put your foot into it and it should really pull :D

Pistons came in today. I have it belt to a short block. Tomorrow... or I guess being it is 4.30am ... today I will finish the short block and instill it into the 62. I have to replace a couple spacers for the fuel injectors so I wont be firing her up as soon as I would have liked. But I hope to have it on the road this coming weekend.

I type the same way at 8am let alone 4:30 :D

I hope everything goes well for you. I have learned that if I think it will take two hours, it takes me 4 or 5 to fix the other crap that comes up along the way.

We'll have to drag race when you get up this way. I'm sure that two Cruisers drag racing on public roads is legal :D

Glad to know you got it running better. Apparently there are a few speed shops with chassis dynos in town, and they usually charge about $80 to run your vehicle on it. I've been debating on doing before-and-after runs with the electric fan conversion, just to see exactly how much is gained by losing the clutch fan.

You're making me really want to do the 2FE job and get a Delta cam too...

Damnit I'm supposed to be spending money restoring my Plymouth!

I'd like to see what a mostly stock 3F-E powered FJ62 will put out as far as WHP. That way I would have something to compare it to. Right now, if I had to make a WAG, I would say 170 HP at the crank and maybe 230-250 #ft of torque. I no idea about those numbers and what RPM they occur.

$80 seems pretty doable. Where are these speed shops?

I honestly have no idea. I've been looking around myself. A guy I work with has their cards in his truck. If he's in tonight I'll ask him.

Toyota listed crank hp as 155 for the 3FE. If you are making more than ~192 crank horsepower you've exceeded 80% duty cycle for your stock injectors (80% is considered the "safe" duty cycle limit for injectors). Assuming stock fuel pressure.

Can you explain this further? Should I be looking into having my injectors opened up to flow more?

I'd have to go back to my charts but I believe that stock injectors are 213cc. Based on the calculators at RC Engineering (who rebuilt and balanced my injectors) that equates to being able to supply ~190hp at 80% duty cycle at the stock 43psi fuel pressure.

You would probably only potentially run into problems when WOT near redline (when you are making max power and want to be on the rich side for safety). The only way to know is to carefully test. If you do decide to do a dyno run they should have a wideband o2 so that you can make sure that you have enough fuel. They you can work towards WOT runs that approach redline in a more controlled environment.

Well you already know who the winner is going to be.... ME :D
I got that Crower brand spankin new billet cam. lol

Dude I still cant believe the price for that entire cam kit. A complete kit with everything including brand new metal timing gears... I cant wait to fire this thing up. I hope it runs like a new engine.
