Hi fellas,

Apologies for hijacking the coil sprung, fuel injected, disc brake world but I'm in need of some help for my 1970 FJ45. Front body bushings are NLA or as dear as poison. So I'm thinking further afield and 80 series ones are readily available. Only problem is, after what seems like eons on the internets, I cannot, for the life of me, locate dimensions of these suckers to see if they will suit. I have already burnt cash and time on a pair that were too small.

Any ideas where to get a pair? They need to be about:

40mm high
70mm in diameter
12mm ID bolt hole

Thanks for your help!

Daniel

No problem.

One of these? These are, in order second, third and fourth from the front. I don't have a photo of the front, but it's smaller. The rear is NLA.

If one of these looks right, let me know and I'll get measurements for you. FWIW, these are only the lower cab mount isolators. I didn't pull the uppers, so I don't have photos of those. The complete isolators look like this:

They all have Ø12-mm through holes for Ø10-mm bolts. I have no idea what the original elastomer durometer was, but based on these, I'd say about Shore40. Febest and Daihatsu also have these. I think they buy them from the same manufacturer Toyota does.

@beno has a 70, he would know for sure if one of these is a direct fit, or whether there is a suituable substitute.

@Malleus! Bloody legend! I like the look of the first one in the pic. Should be 52204B?

I get Ø51 x 28, but it's mushroomed a bit due to the installation compression.

I'd bet it should be Ø50 x 30 (mm, of course)

I should have measured them before I reinstalled them, but I didn't. I guess that's on the list when I replace them this summer.

I would recommend giving @beno a call, he's the parts guru. Well, maybe not THE guru, but one of two anyway.

Both front body mounts on my 80 are gone. Going on the way they fit, replacing them is not possible without undoing all mounts on one side to renew them all as a job-lot.

The genuine ones are ideal - my 80's got all originals (original originals!) from when it was built in 1992. Apparently the front ones (particularly front-left) are very susceptible to failure with age and body/chassis flex in the original build (pre-8/92) 80's such as mine.

I wouldn't think so. I removed mine one at a time and had no problem. Maybe you should replace them all at the same time, but as a technical matter, you don't have to. You do have to loosen all the bolts on on side to get at the upper bushings, but you don't have to remove them to lift the body. And you only need a small fraction of an inch clearance to get them out.

For sure, the front one is the worst, since it's under the battery, headlights and radiator.

Any ideas on what could be done for the rear most set? I am going to be removing at least the two rear most sets in order to get the new filler neck for the gas tank in and I have a feeling I may end up having to cut them out. I was planning on getting a new set but now that I know the rear ones are NLA, I am not sure what the best route to take is.

@Red Merle
Febest brand or something like that.
There is an old thread with part numbers and quantities to replace all the mounts.
It has part numbers for the aftermarket (Febest?) rear mounts that the fellow used.
I got all the OEM mounts, bushings and hardware that is available from Beno.

Cool, thanks for this. I tried doing a little googling and didn't come up with much. SOR has them, but they are $90 a piece for the just the rear bushings which is more than I care to spend if I can avoid it. I may just try to be sure I just cut the bolt if need be and spare the bushings if it becomes clear that there is no affordable option.

EDIT: I found the old thread. :)

Aftermarket body mounts?

Here is Febest's catalog. I just ordered the two rear bushings. I may need to order more, but having these will at least get me started. The rest I can get from the dealership.

Bump from the dead since I am currently buying body mounts. Here is the diagram from Febest website with part numbers. They were a little hard to find in the catalog because they call them frame cushions. I hope this helps.

Here's a more complete list of parts that includes bolts and things in case you wanted to replace at the same time as the mounts. IIRC, credit goes to @BILT4ME for compiling. I think I may have gone through the parts diagram as well. Gracias.

Thanks, but the credit does NOT belong to me.

I'm not sure who compiled that.

Is Febest actually shipping these now? Last time I tried to order a set of bushings my order went through but they contacted me about a week later and canceled all but 3 of them. They said no current inventory. That was about a year ago so if they have stock again I’ll complete my set.

Is there any real world experience on how the Febest body mounts compare to new OEM mounts? Also what about longevity?
