Isn't this almost verbatim what people said after the 100's were introduced? Seriously, switch out "200" for "100" and "100" for "80".

I would love a 200 series. KDSS, front coils, 5.7L that gets the same mpg as 4.7, 6-sp transmission. What's not to like? Looks are all subjective, which it seems like is 90% of your objection.

got to love the old looks are subjective statement :). I would loved to have a like new low mileage FZJ80! The 200 is butt ughly, to big for the trails and you might as well buy a sequoia as a 200 series. I would get the QX56 before I would buy a 200, more bang for the buck and if you are going ughly why not get the latest and greatest ughly SUV?

$18k is still high, you can find '03s for that. Now granted there is a nice service history with the one owner and low miles going for it, but remember age is a factor with any car or truck (albeit a smaller one with these rigs). The saying "Get the newest you can afford." comes to mind.

Ok, so would the 2000 model be a good deal at 16-17k? It is in awesome shape from the photos I have seen. I really don't like factory nav/integrated with climate control so kind of liked the idea of this year model. I don't know how motivated the guy is to sell, thought of offering 15 or so and meeting in the middle.

My only concern is that is has the possible exploding transmission and has about 69,000 miles now so it could still fail. Seems like many of them have done so around this mileage. Or can I buy one of those aftermarket warranties as cheap insurance if the tranny implodes?

I sent a refundable deposit check to have the guy hold it until i can get there next week.

Seems a bit high to me. At that price your at the bottom end of the 2003 and up which has the 5 speed (Big ++)

Hey All. Awesome thread for a 100 newbie like me! :p

I'm looking at a '99 LX, immaculate inside and out, no rust, meticulous maintenance at dealership with complete records. This guy has pride in ownership. Everything works except driver side mirror won't tilt up/down. Has rear elocker (yes - a Canadian truck). 200,000 km (125K miles).

http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Lexus/LX/WEST VANCOUVER/British Columbia/19_6105027_/?showcpo=ShowCPO

Asking is $14.5K.

I WAS looking for 2000+ b/c of VSC/ATRAC but a locked rear with my adding ARB front locker will be fine with me - I think. Perhaps you would suggest otherwise?

What would you offer knowing the front diff needs upgrading, roof rack is needed and no VSC? I'm interested in your opinions on that... (FWIW I was thinking of offering $11.5K).

It will be a mountain access/expo type vehicle for a family of 4 (2 young kids). Will add bumpers and winch, bigger shoes and roof rack. Will keep AHC until bumpers are on. We do several 9 hour drives on interior mountain roads each winter. Summer use will be both decommissioned and active logging roads in costal British Columbia.

Currently drive a 97 'runner with elocker. So far, never needed VSC, and rear locker has always been adequate for my uses over the past 10 years ownership. Being triple locked would be a rare occasion for me but probably FUN.

I spend way too much time lurking on 'Mud!

Hi 04UZJ100,

Yes, all maintenance is up to date. TB/WP etc was done at 158,xxx km.

What would front ARB cost to install (isn't a DIY job for me)?

Cheers.

Dilemma dilemma :frown::frown:
Hello fellow muders, I’ve searching to purchase a 100 series for while now but I just realized that from 2003 and up the steering wheel is Variable Gear electronic. I hate the electronic steering wheel in my current car, how does steering feel in 100 series?
thanx

You won't be able to tell in the LC, the steering feels completely natural on my 04.

It's not electronic. It has VGRS, not electric steering. It is still a hydraulic based system.

Final price they will go down to is about 16k on the super clean 2000 model with 70,000 miles. Local cruiser mechanic can do timing belt for a very reasonable price here in Atlanta if it doesn't throw the old one on the 12 hour drive home. Anyone know a good Cruiser mechanic in Houston?

I really like the vehicle just would like it even more at 14.5k or so. But is the lowest mileage one I could find of that era. I'm hoping when I get there maybe there is a record of the timing belt replacement.

I paid $15.5 for my 2000 in April 2010. It was the best price and mileage I could find in my area after about 3 mos. of looking.
Considering that was 2.5 years ago, I think the one you're after is over priced. If you're ready to spend that much, either wait it out or pony up $3-5k more for an 03+. My .02$.

SoundS like a great deal. There are not a lot of good rust free 100's out there. This 100 will be your buddy faithful buddy for as long as you want to take care of him and keep him in the family. Go for it and get all his services up to date. I doubt you need to worry about the timing beLt or water pump on thE 12 hour ride back to Atlanta but get it done when you get home. Enjoy your new family member. Plus you will alway Find someone who thinks they got a beet tear

I am supposed to go look at the 2000 model tomorrow morning that they indicated will probably agree to sell for 16k. It does not have the T-belt replacement.

I also looked at (and found) three 2005 models 100 series last night. one had 71k, one had 62k, one has 84k. the 84k one had the best records, all dealership online records with Toyota, T-belt, water pump and starter contacts recently replaced. The previous owner used it for mostly highway trips and had the oil changed almost exactly every 3500 miles, there are four pages of records on Toyota website. It actually looks to be the best maintained.

Two of the three are at dealerships, all three are asking price of $25k. I wonder what a fair price is for these three, seems like 22k would be a good deal?

THX SXWUTAH, will let you know outcome in a few days!

I just paid $23k for a 2005 with 110k miles local Vegas vehicle bought maintained at local Lexus dealer and it was highway miles. It had every service since the 1k mile service done and recorded at the local Lexus dealership. Had all belts, hoses, and also new Michelin LTX/MS2 tires. Since it was a desert owned vehicle it has no rust. It did have some road rash on the front that I had to touch up, but that road rash comes from the highway miles. I hope this info helps you when you decide which 100 you want to buy. If I were you I would buy the newest best cared for one

Thanks- the (2005) 84000 mile one looks the best from maintenance standpoint. I offered dealer 20.5 over the phone. They said their price was 24.5 firm and I said, ok let me know if you change your mind in next few weeks!

That is a good price for a dealer maintained with the 90k mile service already done. I think offering $23k would be more than fair. Make sure that includes all dealer fees.
