Ok, sanity check

Hello,

I've been looking for a 100 for a while now, probably a year. I'm very picky and this is going to be an "extra" car, so I'm in no rush at all.

I found a 2000 with ~115K miles here in New England. It's got a clean carfax and it's a southern Georgia car. Looks to be in good shape with no New England rust.

Dealer is asking 13990. The timing belt has NOT been done. I offered 13K, they do the timing belt/water pump and I won't pay their doc fee. They flat out refused to even reply to my email and simply said no when I called.

I felt that was a fair offer. Sanity check? What say Ih8?

Thanks!
Todd

With all do respect, you can't compare a 80-Series open diff to a 100-Series ATRAC. Apples and oranges, but hey it's your money, and our US economy needs all the spending it can get! For the record, I've owned and drove both. ;)

Never taken a 100 off road so I might have to give this ATRAC a try. Is it computer aided traction control that controls wheelspin with braking?

Again, rear locker is just an idea. Thats why I'm "thinking out loud" on here so people that actually have owned a 100 can share their experience of what works and what doesnt. The 100 series is an entirely new beast to me so there is a lot to learn.

Yeah, they double checked, the timing belt and water pump has 100% not been done. Oh well, they have made the decision for me. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't completely low balling or off base with my offer.

Thanks!

Any body got a price opinion on a 98 with over 220K?
It claims to have all the scheduled maintenance done, it has an OME lift, slee diff drop, sliders, decent tires, Rear and Center Lockers, ARB Front locker, and a good interior? I might get rid of my 93 fully locked, maintained, 80 series in favor of slightly better gas mileage and more power under the right foot. The addition of it being a bit more built is a bonus.

They are asking almost $10K. Is this a great deal? What should I offer or should I?

With those mods I would say $10k is a very good price. Make sure the CarFax checks out, and good to go.

I found a 2002 100 w/ 145,xxx on the clock. One owner vehicle, entire life spent in Michigan. All maintenance has been done by the dealer and it would appear the 90k service was done. Based on the carfax (i will call dealer to verify), it would appear the vehicle has been maintained well.

Asking 13,995.

Thinking of offering 12k. But I have to check it out first.

Thoughts?

Are you in Michigan?

Yes, I am located in Michigan.

Outside of Detroit, in Oakland County.

You know better than I any issues Michigan trucks have with rust. If it passes your visual inspection, I'd say $12K is a good offer. It is hard to put a price on the confidence you get with well-kept maintenance records.

Heading over to Scottsdale Lexus to Pick Up a 2006 LX470 with the Certified Lexus Warranty and 51,300 miles for $33,900. Any thoughts on the Price? They were at $39K then dropped to $35.9K so I called and will be checking it out tonight?

Sounds like a great vehicle, very low miles. Just be ready for the 60K service at about $1500 coming up and when it is 7 years old plan on doing the timing belt and water pump. The good part about a desert LX is no rust the bad part is rubber parts don't last long. Toyota/Lexus recommends changing the timing belt and the other belts at 7 years and or 90K miles. You will hit the 7 years long before the 90K miles. I had a 99 100 series AZ vehicle that I changed the timing belt and water pump on at 50K miles because it was 8 years old. Good thing I did the belt was in bad shape and the water pump was leaking.

That one has been on the market for awhile.
Plan on another $1500-2500 to replace those ghetto rims and tires!
Other than that, it looks nice.

Th 60K has already been done by the dealer and they are putting a set of LX 16 inch wheels on with LTX MS tires. oh those gettho rims are WORSE in person.

I just heard back from the dealership that they don't feel comfortable putting on the 16's. So I am still searching.....

lol... Tell them to mount them. Any 16" or 18" LC/LX rim will fit any year LC/LX. Any tech should know the LC/LX uses the same suspension setup for all years. So if a 16" can fit a 98...they will fit a 07 LX470

Value question for 1998 LC

I've been looking for a 100 series for a long time and found one that I would like to buy but I'm always second guessing my opinion on the value. Found this 1998 with 181,000 miles, same owner for the last 12 years, rear locker, full service with timing belt and all that goes with it at 162,000 miles. Could use a set of tires but that's it. I also like the color since I don't see the blue much in my area. I can buy it for $9,000, what do you think? Sounds like a good deal to me comparing it to comparable LC's that are priced at $11,000 or more with the same miles.

Thanks for the help

Sounds like a great deal!... and it has the gold kit. Ha

That's a pretty good price for what looks like a really nice truck.

Deal. Especially if southern car entire life. Given the flares, it looks like a southeastern spec.
