2000 Land Cruiser with 500k miles? Would you consider it?

**Disregard** The first salesman said it was still there for sale, then the manager told me it was sold already.

I'm looking at a 2000 LC with approximately 500k miles on it. I haven't been to see it yet, so I haven't seen any service records.

Would you consider such a high mileage vehicle? How much should I offer if it's in good condition?

Thanks for any insight.

On all original engine and drivetrain? Unless it's almost free, I wouldn't. Suppose you could just drive it until something major happens and then part it out -- going back to the 'almost free' part.

Yes, I would consider it, but it all depends on price. Let us know what they're asking.

Maybe for 2 grand, maybe more if it has records for replaced/rebuilt engine, replaced/rebuilt transmission, replaced suspension bushings/shocks/struts, every electrical item working, no rust, etc. It's really difficult for me to imagine owning a 500k mile rig...

What do you mean with **Disregard**? Is it not for sale?

I think it would be kind of cool to own a LC with half a million miles on it.
Depends on price of course but if it's cheap, you could always part it out if it not worth saving.
I would try and drive it to 1000k. There must be some high mileage club. Send a picture of the odometer to Toyota Japan and get a free pen ! :p
I'd love to see some pics if you have any.

2001 Land Cruiser

Hello All. I am a long time looker first time poster. I have been looking for a 100 series for a while now. I am finally selling my 1994 Land Rover Disco which has served me well (I am a lucky one). I came across one today that I am pretty interested in but have some questions for the board.

The dealer is asking $16,995. It looks very clean overall and was an Arizona vehicle. There are no visible body issues, clean AutoCheck record, no rust or dings and only a few paint chips on the hood. The concerns I have are the third row seat belts are missing except the center belt (can these be stowed somewhere I should be looking for). Looks like they are $118 each to replace. The stereo speakers in the front are blown and need to be replaced. The third thing is that it pulls to the left under acceleration. I am not sure why as it seems to be in alignment when normally driving. It doesn't seem to pull when I brake hard. Any ideas what this might be?

It has 105,000 miles on it and had the timing belt service at 80k. I have done a bunch of reading and it seems that milage isn't an issue, am I right? Having owned a Land Rover anything over 100k makes me nervous. Also, can I pull service records?

I feel like $17k is high and by reading it seems somewhere around $14,500-$15,500 would be a good deal?

Thanks for the help.

This is one of those questions just to ask a question posts. Been wondering if yall think this would be a good idea.

I have a 2000 LC with 91k on it. Still need to do the 90k service. Almost all my mods are bolt on and could be transfered to another truck.

I noticed that 03-04 LC's with 125k are going for about what the Kbb trade in value of mine is. Idk if any dealership would actually give me the trade in value but... Do yall think it'd be a good idea to put the stock parts back on my 2000 and trade it in for and transfer my parts onto a higher mileage 03-04? It'd mostly just cost me the ridiculous Santa Monica sales tax. I'd get the newer exterior, 5 spd transmission, side airbags, newer interior and still be able to use my dual battery, sliders, lift etc. Plus the underside of a West Coast 03-04 is probably cleaner than my East Coast truck.

Although I'd lose the money and time invested in things like new tires, replacing fluids, spark plugs, starter, etc.

$17k for a 2001 is VERY high, even with the low miles. The dealer is doing their normal job of trying to gouge you. Either talk them way down, or continue your search elsewhere (ideally private party and not dealer). Dealers in the US make the majority of their profit margins on used vehicle sales.

As for mileage, these are not Land Rover's. In fact nothing could not be more than the opposite. 100-Series Land Cruisers are just getting broke-in around 150k, and will easily last you 300k or more.

Third row seats, no place to store them other than your garage which is why most are missing. People pull them out, and then forget to bring them while trading it at the dealer. Honestly, they are useless and dead weight. Nobody is going to comfortably sit back there unless they are 6 years old or younger.

Front stereo speakers blown is very common, and an easy/cheap fix.

Choosing between 2 different used 100's.

Greetings all,

I just registered and figured: "why not jump right in and ask one of those forum newbie, eye-rolling, 'oh-no-not-this-again' questions?" :)

I am new to LC's and hoping to pull the trigger on a used 100 in the near future. A couple which I am looking at are very similar, with the exception that one of them has the manual locking differential (which I'm told is "better"), while the other has the auto traction control.

As far as use...I would not describe myself as what I think of as a hard-core off-roader. I don't plan to try and challenge the truck to extreme tests, go bouldering, or anything like a lot of folks might be into. That said, I hunt and fish and like to camp in some out-of-the-way places.

It breaks down as follows:

2000 - almost 140,000 miles, asking just over 13K, manual lockers

2002 - almost exactly 130,000 miles, asking just under 15K, traction control

The 2000 is gray and has no Nav, which I like. I have seen this one in person (though the place was closed, so obviously no test drive and only looked at it from the outside). It seemed OK. Lots of scratches (not a huge deal) and some worn leather. No huge flaws, but nothing spectacular to write home about, either.

The 2002 seems to be in much better shape. It has the Nav and is white, neither of which I'm a fan of but can live with. I haven't seen the it in person yet. Looks nice in the photos, but don't they all...

Clean CarFaxes on both. The dealer for the 2002 actually sent me a copy; it spent much of its life as a corporate vehicle out in CO and has had the timing belt and a bunch of other stuff done. No details on the CarFax for the 2000 - dealer just said it was initially a 36K lease, then was sold and has had no accidents.

They are close enough in price that money is not a big issue for me. I don't want to pay more than I need to, of course. But I just want the best, most reliable truck for my needs.

I guess I'm kinda rambling and maybe even over-thinking it at this point. Sorry!

In a nutshell, if it was your money, which do you think would be a better truck for a Northern MN winter and some "mild" off-roading, camping, escaping from zombies, etc.? Is either of these model years considered a "year to avoid at all costs," or are they basically the same?

Thanks for your infinite patience!

No rolleyes needed if you posted in the sticky at the top of the forum... ;):p

https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series...what-year-how-much-etc-ask-opinions-here.html

Both vehicles you listed will more than satisfy your needs. I suggest you do some searches about 2000 model year and early transmission failures. It would be enough for me to pass on any 2000 and get either a 98-99, or 2001+. Also do some searches on early models and weak front diffs.

One piece of advice, for your needs the traction control (ATRAC) is more than capable in comparison to the manual electronic lockers. I've put my 04 through some tough jeep trails and never been let down by ATRAC.

What's a fair price for a 2006 lc100, with around 65,000 miles, and in good shape?

You are probably looking in the neighborhood of $28-29k.

Sounds about right based on what's out there on Autotrader and Cars.com. There are several that they are very proud of (mostly dealers but not always) that have near 100,000 miles for over $30K. Keep your eyes open and you can get a good deal!

What do you all think...
04 LC with 120K for $18,000? One owner completely dealer maintained every service done at the same dealer. Looks perfect in pics. Dealer disclosed that driver and passenger front doors repainted. At the original dealer that sold it new. CA truck. Any thoughts?

That is a DAMN good deal. I would grab it in a heartbeat!

Who cares if the doors were resprayed, these are not show cars. Check the VIN stickers, original doors? Any large drips of runs in the new spray? Does the door/fender gaps look even? If so, then game on!

It looks great in high res photos. No gaps, cant tell a difference in color. Dealer told me over phone that he can see if sun light. But like you said this isnt a show car. Gonna see it in the next couple of days, work schedule permitting.
