Oh it's fake for sure. I've had a few too. I didn't really understand at first what the scam was all about, but I opened two threads and now I know. They routinely try ebay, amazon and paypal.

Bad LX Test Drive Today

So I test drove a 2000 LX today in my search for the right vehicle. More than anything, I just wanted to vent a bit.
asking 13,800...would take 12,900 per previous email.
So the guy was very nice, but I was told it's in great condition with only one quarter sized paint chip on the side. I get there, and the entire rocker panel has paint chipped off...both sides down to metal! I messed w/ the AHS up/down and selecting 4L and such and the ride height did not seem to change like it should. After ignoring all of the many many interior flaws from cracked steering wheel clear coat, stained carpets, unk wires hanging down from the roof, and extremely worn leather seats, I moved to for the test drive. While the engine ran great, the transmission seemed to be more loose than my 5 speed 4runner I just sold. Loose enough I didn't like it, almost like it may be the next 2000 tranny to fail.
Overall it drove ok, but man that suspension sucks! I would guess becuase it's worn out or not working properly, but the thing felt like I was driving with the statue of liberty strapped on top!
Next when I was back from the test drive, I did one more walk around and found TONS of rust in the liftgate on the rear...

Is it safe to assume the shocks/coils most of you have upgraded to will help with handling a bit?
On to look at one in Dallas...but I'm too scared to make the trip myself so I"m sending a buddy of mine that lives there. Will the LC have any better handling that a worn out LX hydro system??

Guess you never really know til you check these things out for yourself!

I will say I have pretty much ruled out the LX, which is sad becuse I"m pretty sure this one was just faulty suspension. If not, I would go CRAZY driving something with that much sloppiness on the road. But smooth when driving straight? You bet! And the folding mirrors and memory seats are pretty nice too.
On to CL for me.

you need to weed out the bad ones to find a good one. When the wife wrecked the 4 runner before christmas, it was the middle of May before we found the right rig. a 2005 LX. She's loved it for the last 2 years.
the right one will come along.

Patience is what I need...it just sucks not having a vehicle! I have a company car and my wife has her 08' Accord, so I know I shouldn't get in a hurry.
I have never driven either a LC or LX and hate that all I have to judge is this clunker from today.
Should the LX suspension lift fairly quickly when you push the "up" button? I felt it jump up in 4L, but didn't make it change up or down again, I'll go search and see if it was busted or what.

I'm not beyond getting a LX with busted suspension and replacing the whole system with standard coils/shocks, but the rest of the vehicle will have to be spotless and the price cheap.

I purchased a 2002 LX in Dallas yesterday. And looked at a few turds along the way.

When testing the suspension raising/lowering, make sure all of the doors and hood are closed. Otherwise it will not move.

I live in Dallas and would be glad to help you scope out some vehicles. There is a nice LC for sale for $17k on autotrader for sale by owner. Silver 2000 with 94k miles. Original owner. Sounds like a nice one. I was unable to coordinate with the owner before I saw and purchased my new LX.

One thing that you need to be prepared to do - buy it on the spot. If you see a nice one, someone is right behind you with a check. So act quickly - but don't buy junk.

In my experience, the LX owners typically maintained the vehicles better than the LC owners. Many variables there, but that was my observation. Good luck!

Maybe you should go for a LC/LX test drive at a local dealership and try a recent, low mileage model that is out of your price range. Then you have a reference to work down from.
If you then test drive one that is within your budget and get close to your new benchmark, you've got a winner. :smokin:

Great tips guys! I may in fact have you check out one for me..I'll pm you and work something out

I'm currently looking at a 2006 LC with 122k, price just went down to $23,900. It appears to be a clean example with an interior in very good shape compared to a few others I've seen. No maintenance records available, trying to find a local shop that may have serviced it (all Toyota dealers in 100 miles say nope).

My other problem is trying to support my case with my wife for a 100-series instead of something newer with fewer miles like a Honda Pilot or a Highlander. At this point its an uphill battle...

Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated.

Ask about the timing belt/water pump service, it should have been completed around 90k miles. If done by Toyota, there will typically be a sticker somewhere under the hood indicating the date and at what mileage it was performed. Having the major service performed can be pricey.

As for the Misses, claim safety first, especially if you have children. The fact that the 100 is full time 4-wheel drive allows the two of you to do endless outdoor excursion, vacations, etc. The obvious would be the famed history of the LC's overall dependability. Whatever you do, don't mention MPG...

Call a dealer and ask for the national service history, not just if they specifically serviced it, or go to Toyota.com/owners, join, and enter the VIN to see the national service history (if you aren't a member already). The dealer where I bought my truck was a Toyota dealer, so they gave me the national service history, but I went online and had a look for myself too. :)

The sixth one I called did the national lookup after his displayed nothing. It certainly saved me a lot of time!

I'll have to keep their site in mind, that would be a very easy way to track down the info, THANKS!

It looks to be in near mint condition for that millage and its a certified pre-owned from lexus, which is a bonus. It seems fairly priced, kbb says its worth $29,374 from the dealer. Take a look at the carfax see if anything fishy pops up.

2006 LC for 23K!?

Toyota : Land Cruiser Toyota : Land Cruiser | eBay

Just wondering if this is really as good as it looks. I'm trying to find a mid 2000's and this fits the bill perfectly, but sounds too good to be true I think. What do you guys think?

Hello everyone,
I'm currently in the process of selling my 2001 Toyota LandCruiser 100 series. Silver exterior, gray interior. 159,xxx miles, mostly highway. Well taken care of. Tires have about 6k miles on them. Never had a problem with it and always kept up with maintenance. Does have one dent in the tailgate and one scuff on the front bumper passenger side. The scuff was there when I bought it, I put the dent in it. Also put new Memphis speakers in and it sounds great.

I'm not so great at posting pictures on here, never have been. I'd be glad to send more information/pictures through email, if you have any questions please, feel free to email me at sailorasc(AT)aim(DOT)com or give me a call on my cell at 706_945_2740.

Cheers,
Jack

that 06 looks good, did you call them?

and laxaholic, try posting to the classifieds and pictures/price/location is a must to sell on the internet.

Things to worry about

Okay, I got a lead with a good price on 1998 LC. It has had a good deal of preventative maint. done by the current owner, and the previous owner basically used it as a weekend highway driver. It has 260K miles on it. What are some things that I should be looking out for? I am buying this from someone I trust. I just would like to know what I might be getting into.

I'm looking at this 2004 LX, but the color makes me hesitate. Before I drive over and see it in person, I'd like to know your opinion. Is it Eucalyptus Mica? Is it green or light blue, or just plain ugly?
