Yeah, this is EXACTLY what I am struggling with. I hate to buy cosmetics, but it often seems that the way a vehicle is taken care of cosmetically can extend to how it was maintained mechanically (not always of course). We are gonna have it looked over tomorrow and make sure all is well, and if so, it should be ours next week. Thanks for the input.

Indeed! I hope things went well, and you have a new truck!

Need to know how much should I really be paying for a 2000 Lexus LX 470 w/ 100k mileage.
A friend of my dad is selling it for $10K. I don't know what features it has or anything. Really looking for a second cruiser for the :princess:

What should I be paying for a 2003-04 GX470 with all the options and about 100k on it?
thanks

Sounds like a darn good deal to me.

Ok, down to two different 100s, same Grey/Grey color:

#1 - 2003, 112k, $19.5k, Arizona Truck 1-owner, full maintenance records since new. TB and WP done. Tires 50%

#2 - 2004, 100k, $20.5k, PA Truck 1-owner, Toyota Dealer selling it that also did all the maintenance, TB and WP done, new Nitto TG (I have extensive pics of the underside, looks good for a NE truck, some surface rust on the front arms and body mounts, but not as bad as some I have seen here in Denver, upper tailgate looks good too)

The only difference btw the 03 and 04s that I mildly care about is the bluetooth and backup camera, but not even really too much. Does anyone think these are really worth it?

The PA truck would cost me $900 or so to ship, but it has new tires, so -$900 for that, and it's a wash.

So the decision comes down to $1000 more for an '04 with 10k less miles from the NE?

I am leaning towards the AZ truck right now, but wanted to see what you all thought. Thanks again.

Dave,

PM sent. I believe I'm the previous owner of the PA cruiser.

Thanks,
Eric

Thanks for the PM Eric, I decided to put a deposit on the AZ truck, mainly because I will be able to fly down and see it before handing over the check. But if this falls through, your truck is an excellent backup!

Does anyone know a good shop in the Phoenix area for an inspection? Specifically Scottsdale?

Thanks!

You might ask for marco at Camelback. He was the mech on my truck before I bought it. But that's all I know about him, so I can't exactly vouch, good luck.

Contact Eric Murphy at Camelback Toyota. He is the service director, and he wheels a SC 80 series. Many of us in the Phoenix area have him take care of our rigs. Don't know about Marco, but he has one or two mechanics are are very fluent in Landcruiser. Eric goes by "MURF" on the CopperStateCruiser forum here on mud. John

Big thanks to all who helped me find a good 100. Had the AZ truck looked at by Eric, he saw a couple problems and is going to hook me up with a great deal to get some things fixed before I head down there Sat. to drive it back up to Denver (rack and pinion needs a R&R).

As a price point for others, 2003 LC Grey/Grey 115k TB done, but rack needs replacement = $18.5k, what really sold me was the extensive maintenance records, AZ born, and 1-owner. A little higher mileage than I wanted, but everything else was in place, so that was the small compromise.

Looking forward to learning what I can about the 100s. Now I have to decide whether to replace the 80 or the Rav4. Keeping my fingers crossed that the Rav4 will have to go to a new home and I can keep the 80.

If anyone is interested in Eric's old truck in PA, I have lots of photos and I would suggest you PM Eric for the real scoop. I think there is a deal to be had there too if you can get past some surface rust...

I'm thinking about starting a search for a 100 Series. I know how many mikes an 80 is capable of, what about a 100, given it's got agood service history? Any help would be appreciated.

i'm not sure if anyone knows how long a well maintained 100 will last. i haven't seen any reports of an engine needing rebuilt on this forum. my guess is, it will last longer than you will care to drive it? maybe 4-500k miles with impecable maintenance and a few replacement parts?

Congrats on the great find!

keep the 80. You'll want it when the 100 is just too damn pretty to beat up on the trail.

I'm still looking for a good 100.
This is what I get when I do a country wide search on Autotrader.

Really? :bang:

Yes sir. They remain hard to find. I have never seen on for sale in my town. We dove 4 hours to get ours in Denver. Even then, there were only 4-5 listed in the metro area. Patients is a virtue.

I test drove one last summer when I started my search, and the salesman immediately commented "These are RARE.", we promptly saw 3 others on the short 10 minute test drive. I see them all over the place in the Seattle area (both because there seem to be a decent number of them here, and of course I am looking for them). BUT, it took me 7 months to find what I really wanted, and I had to go to Kansas City, MO to get it. People hold on to them, and they didn't really import that many of them, when compared to other mass produced trucks.

Endeavor to persevere my friend, endeavor to persevere.

They are hard to find for sure, especially on this side of the border. They are all imports form the US, the only ones we get are LX's but I prefer a LC.
What bugs me is that most of them are scams, usually ridiculous pricing which makes it easy to spot, but some are difficult to see. I have sent countless emails to find out they are just out to scr&w me.
Actually postponing the buy might just be a good thing. This way I can get my financials ready. I am still trying to sell some cars and the only response I get so far is..... scams and scoundrels.

What a world....
