No rear diff lock available on the LX, they came stock with a rear LSD on 98-99.

Hey guys,

I am searching on here for info but can't seem to find.

We are getting a second 100..

Any real issue with lifting since it will have the AHC?

If you can point me to a thread or two, to save your time, thanks a bunch.

Sorry for the obvious redundant questions.

Like they said no locker option, the switch in the LC would be a dial on the panel to the left of the steering wheel. The thing with the '99 is no ATRAC, one year early. But then with '00 you run into the 4% transmission risk.

As far as AHC you can get the slee switch to allow Hi at speeds >20MPH and get the diff drop. If you want a standard lift you just remove AHC system and install normal lift.

100-series owner at last!

Hey guys,

I picked up a 2000 Land Cruiser w/ 106k miles over the weekend, concluding my nearly five month long search. I was going to avoid the 2000 model due to the transmission issue but decided the low price I paid gave me some insurance.

First order of business is to remove the running boards and install some front mud flaps, which I’ve just ordered from Cruiser Dan. I’m also planning to remove the roof rack – I like the look without it.

The truck needs the timing belt replaced and is due for new tires – these are next on my list, along with a good cleaning of the interior.

Thanks everyone for your help, this site has been great!

My Dilemma

Hi,
I've been a short term lurker and finally need the help of this forum on a decision.

My wife and I are planning a 9000 mile road trip this Summer through Canada and the western USA and I am planning on getting a 100, but I can't decide if I should get the 01 (no nav) or an 03/04/05 for the 5 speed. I am not planning on holding out to find non nav rig with crazy miles/wear just to get a rare bird to avoid the HVAC/NAV issue.

I guess I am interested in what people think about the potential for either a 4,000 dollar transmission repair (w/ a failure of less than 1% if build date is after 8/00, correct?) versus the NAV/HVAC failure also costing big bucks. A lexus dealer told me someone in california repairs NAV units for a fraction of original cost...

Obviously, the NAV.HVAC will not immobilize the car, and really becomes an inconvenience rather than a true problem. I have searched the forum and have not found significant reports of failure of 03 and later units in any case.

Cost is obviously an issue as well, as the $$$ used to replace blown tranny is already spent getting an 03.

Give me your thoughts, please!!!!

I wouldn't really worry about either. Just focus on a clean truck with great records and mileage you can live with.

For an adventure/road trip vehicle, get an older non-nav 100. Huge cost savings, plus a well spent $1000.00 on a sound solution will put an 03+ 100's NAV/Climate/Ent. system to shame.

Why buy a $25-30k truck just to instantly put 9000 miles on it? These things last forever. Spend around $15k for a low mileage non-nav unit. Tinker around and do some kick-ass mods and go see the world! They all look about 95% the same in stock form anyways.

x2, I'm with Paul on that. Was looking for an 03 or later with a 5 speed, but came across a '99 with less than 87k on it, and had been an AZ truck with no rust or pain in the rear corrosion on every bolt. Runs very well, upgraded Alpine head unit replaced the stock radio, and I will never have to worry about not being able to turn the heat on in some really cold place because the integrated Nav/HVAC controls are not visible on the screen! Used the money I saved for radflo's, total chaos, supercharger, slee blueberry, syn rope and other goodies.

This is not the way it works. Manual controls are available via the Nav screen. However, the temp setting (up/dn) with digital readout, Temp ON, Defrost, rear defrost are not part of the nav screen. They are all individual normal buttons external to the nav screen. Thorugh summer and winter I have never needed to use the touch screen buttons that allow manual operation rather than auto (set temp and go). It figures out AC or Heat and which vents based on mode. The manual allow you to change the vent system and fan speed manually.

The GPS setup is nice, but I don't really use it except on long trips. I have an Ipad and Iphone that do GPS which I use for shorter trips as I can play with it while I am driving

For the stereo, the touchscreen allows you some more control over the stereo and VAIS IPOD interface, but I could still do most everything from the manual buttons on the stereo front

I do use the trip information sometimes. Kind of cool to see how your mileage changes based on driving style

I use the bluetooth setup to make phone calls via the navscreen, but if the screen died I could dial from the phone and still use the bluetooth

I do like the rear camera

I leave the screen off by default

In reality, if the Nav screen where to die, it wouldnt impact my ability to do anything including controlling the climate or listening to the stereo

Now if the whole unit just up and died, then not sure how that would impact stuff. But you can get it repaired or replaced from a wrecker.

The sound of the stereo is impressive and I am very pleased.

I am not saying you couldn't get a better unit going aftermarket, my ears likely couldnt tell the difference.

I'm glad to see that. I thought the value of arkansas cruisers was about to go in the crapper
