i can honestly say i've never herd of a bad master cylinder on a 100 series... shop it around a little if you can verify its bad... i'm sure you can save some money if you do a little research...

My '98 LX had a bad MC... I searched the carpart.com boneyard site and found one for around $300.. easy install..been good for past 2 years..
IIRC, the MC can be rebuilt. Search the 100 forum, someone did a nice write-up a while back.
pretty good, theses things seem to be appreciating in price somehow, when i check kbb, my rig worth much more than when i bought it 10 months ago even with the more milage i put on

I've been looking for a Cruiser for a while that I want to use as a daily driver. I've got a pretty good line on three opportunities, but I can't decide which direction to go. The alternatives are:
1996 FZJ80, locked, 142k miles, very clean condition - $6000
1999 Lexus LX470, 145k miles, very clean condition - $11,000
2002 Lexus LX470, 72k miles, very clean, Mark Levinson - $18,500
Assume you could afford any of the above, which one would you choose and why? Are any of these simply too good of a deal to pass up, or should I keep looking?

1999, but I would try to find a 100 so you don't have to worry about AHC ever failing on you.
A clean 80 with ~140K miles and lockers for $6K is a smoking deal. I'd buy that, drive it and enjoy it for a year or two, and sell it for the same amount.
Look for a 2003 for the added 1 speed of transmission
Does it make a noticeable difference in acceleration and highway cruising ability?

More gears means that the gears can be shorter and more specific to a particular RPM and throttle position. In the end, yes it does make a noticeable difference in nearly all driving conditions. I really wanted an 03+ but ended up with a 02 since I couldn't pass up the great deal. While the 02 is a great truck, the 03+ is just going to "feel" faster and more powerful.

2000 LX470 with 175k on it. Help!
A good friend is selling their black '00 Lexus LX 470 that they've owned since new. The wife has driven it and meticulously maintained it at their dealer here in Atlanta (have all records) and is willing to sell it to me for $10K - what CarMax offered them, which is less than what their local Lexus dealer offered them. I love the car, it would work great for our growing family, I couldn't afford a younger LX470, etc.
My questions are: 1) Is this really a good deal? 2) I'm stuck on the 175,000 miles. Am I inevitably looking at some huge repairs in the next 50-100K miles when I'm starting out at 175K? If we take good care of it, is it likely to last me another 5-7 years with my wife running the kids around town?

At a minimum you'll probably want to do a timing belt soon. If you're not familiar with inspecting used cars I'd recommend a pre purchase inspection with a mechanic.
What is the timing belt service likely to cost?
These are the hours I see for just the belt. Use the 2nd column. It may be a good idea to replace the water pump and tensioner at the same time. I'm not sure on these engines. Your best bet is to call around for pricing.

acceleration yes, highway cruising not as much; the accelerator is much more responsive to your right foot, more likely to downshift.

I'm flying down to L.A. this weekend to test drive this 2007 Land Cruiser Cars for Sale: 2007 Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 in GLENDALE, CA 91203: Sport Utility Details - 284490081 - AutoTrader.com. Perhaps you've seen it on AutoTrader or Craigslist. The CarChex inspection turned-out well. If the in-person test drive goes well, it will be loaded on a truck and shipped to Seattle to replace my Tahoe. Fingers crossed. Anyone here happen to have firsthand knowledge of this vehicle or know of any red flags? Someone here previosly steered me away from a used 2006 in Portland. Was very grateful for that. Thanks.

Very nice cruiser. Thats a good looking car however, for another 5-6k you could probably get a 200... I just convinced my roommate to trade his tahoe for a 200 instead of a new tahoe. Hes very happy with his choice. Either way glad your making the switch. Will it ever see some wheelin? Or is it destined to be a mall cruiser?
