price check?

first venture into this forum.
looking at a 2005 Lexus LX470, 57,500 miles, very decent shape, 2nd owner, originally asked $31,500 now he's at $29,500. Fair price? I know what KBB says it's value is, but just wondering.

also reading other posts 17-18 MPG is about right if you don't have your foot into the pedal?

I had an early model, but I would say 17-18mpg is optimistic by 2-3mpg, for everyday driving.

FWIW Our '06 saw a noticeable increase in MPG over our '99 along with a nice increase in power- Just saying:)

to clarify, I was thinking the 17-18 for highway, maybe 14 around town?

Seem like good prices all around. But I think i would take the first '99 with all the records...

I just paid 12,500 for a '99 with 116,000 and all services and records.

Oh boy, there should have been a forum warning, that the peaceful 100 series forum was to be no more.

driven too hard...

Looking close to purchasing a 99 LC. 120k...Family of 5 trailing a 3500 lb trailer 7-10 times a year for the past two year. He has drained the transmission yearly. So, is it driven too hard? How does one tell? I will be having the dealer check it out....

Thanks for any thoughts, Mike

I would not think so. I do a lot of towing with a similar sized boat. The 100 series feels up to the task. I never felt like I was putting a lot of strain on the engine or tranny. I run 285s and tow through the mountains with little drama.

Darin and fill is recommended. You should be fine. These trucks are built for a 25 year service life in harsh conditions. That towing is nothing.

I am selling a 1999 LX470 (100 series Land Cruiser), lifted, 33” tires, steel sliders. I have an idea of how much it is worth but would like some input. Below is the write up for the truck:

"1999 Lexus LX470 (100 series Land Cruiser), lifted, 33” tires, steel sliders
Pictures below.

I purchased the vehicle 3 years ago and began the process of un-sissifying it and making this rig what it should be by lifting 2", upgraded tires, sliders, and installing a touchscreen nav system. Eventually steel front and rear bumpers could be added and whatever other upgrades you like to complete the transformation. The many added features of the LX470 over the Land Cruiser make this a better vehicle, in my opinion. The AHC (automatic height control) alone is worth getting the Lexus. The adjustable height and the adjustable ride (4 settings from stiff to soft) work flawlessly and are a great feature. It does have more insulation to make it a quieter ride and the memory seat function is great when more than one person will be driving the vehicle.

$1200 Oversized truck tire upgrade (see detail below). $1500 touchscreen Nav/stereo system. $1000 (including shipping cost) Slee Tube Sliders (see detail below) 2” lift. $200 Slee differential drop kit installed. AHC will lift the truck another 2-3” when needed for off-road conditions. Pictures are with AHC on high setting. Essentially a 4” lift in high mode. You can also lower the truck 2”+ below the normal setting when needed for parking garages or for when grandma needs a ride and she has trouble getting into your tall truck… a potential selling point to a reluctant spouse. Weathertech weather blockers installed on side door windows. These are great for venting heat during summer without risking rain getting inside.

All fluids have been maintained regularly and are fully synthetic, including the differential fluid and the grease used in grease fittings. The AHC fluid has been flushed and replaced with factory AHC fluid. Last synthetic oil and filter change were done 3 months/1000 miles ago. Timing belt done at 113K. Maintenance records available.

140k highway and city miles. Clean carfax/history. Engine and transmission are in excellent condition. One CV boot has a tear. I have not yet replaced/rebuilt it but have put more CV grease in and sealed the tear. The sunroof motor is a little weak and may need replaced in the near future if it is used much. The emergency brake recently stopped working. The cable either came loose or needs replaced. I have not had time to investigate yet. There is a dent in the right front fender and the side marker light is cracked. I was not planning to get it fixed until I replaced the front bumper with a brushguard front bumper to avoid this from happening again. I have only taken the truck off-road once… which is when I was hit by a crazed fallen tree trunk at 2mph that attacked the fender. The interior is in good condtion. The leather shows some wear and could stand to be detailed but overall is in good shape for it's age. The paint needs redone sometime in the near future. The clear coat is hazy and worn from age and sun exposure. The good news is you get to pick the color, type, and quality of the paint… or if you want an off-road vehicle you can leave the paint as-is so you won’t care about a small scratch here and there from a branch. Repainting will cost anywhere from $250 to $1000+ depending on what you want the paint shop to do. If you are embarrassed by driving a Lexus off-road among Land Cruisers then when getting the paint done get all external Lexus paraphernalia removed and put a Toyota logo on it. After all this is just a high-end Toyota truck. Overall this truck is very strong that has a few superficial scars that can be easily fixed and does have some nice rather expensive upgrades .

I installed a $1500 Pioneer Avic-Z1 navigation system mainly because this was our only car for three years and it was very useful for that purpose. Software upgraded so the hardware/software is the same as the Z2. It has a 30 GB hard drive for music storage. The map data was upgraded just over a year ago. Bluetooth adapter is installed for cell phone use as a speaker phone. An Ipod cable is installed for playing ipod/iphone through the system. The factory speakers are great and the system can get very loud if you want.

$1000 Slee Tube Sliders.
For protection against rocks or other off-road obstacles.
The main slider is constructed from 2"x3" rectangular tube with a 3/16" wall thickness. The mounts to the frame are 1/4" formed channel welded to 1/4" plates. Attachment is done using 3* 7/16" U-bolts on each side.*The outer tube is 1.75" tube welded to the main slider and supported with two gussets.
The sliders are* finished with 60% gloss powder coat finish. The pre-treatment includes baking to remove all oil, phosphate washing, sandblasting and then a powder coating is applied.*

$1200 tire upgrade.
Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor truck tires, 33”, 305/70R16. An excellent all around tire that is not too loud on the road. ¾ of tread left. They are very durable and should last at least another 50,000 miles depending on your driving habits/conditions. They have some internal Kevlar for strength and some insulation for added noise comfort.

With these tires the LX still rides well on the road but has serious off-road capability that is not available with the factory tires. In my opinion the original tires are way too soft/spongy for this truck. They make it a purely on-road truck and mock the hardcore nature of this vehicle. Its like putting ballet slippers on an MMA fighter… not a good idea. The Goodyear tires installed are a truck tire that is firmer and helps with handling/cornering and provides a little more rollover safety because they will not flex as much if sharp turning is needed to avoid an accident. They are incredible in wet and/or snowy environments and are great off-road as well.

The spare was upgraded as well and the spare tire mounting hardware was modified to allow the larger tire to sit up higher to keep it safer from off-road hazards."

The paint and minor maintenance issues are negatives but the upgrades add value. Given that most of you probably have more experience with the 100's than me... What is your opinion on pricing this LX470? Below are some pictures. Thanks in advance. 's on me.

Good Looking cruiser, I'm looking for a 100. If I were closer I would be interested.

Thinking about a 100!

I am considering getting a 100 series Land Cruiser. I am currently driving a 1994 Mercedes G350 Turbo Diesel and while it is a truly awesome vehicle and I love every minute driving it, it isn't really fitting my needs.
First of all it is a 16 year old vehicle with all the little quirks that go along with it, nothing major but just several little things pop up every couple months. I still get in and drive it anywhere and everywhere, a testament to that is that I have put nearly 25,000 miles on it in the last 14 months since I have owned it.
That is also the main reason for considering another Land Cruiser, I am not doing any real off roading and the G350 is a little noisy on the highway. I also want a few more creature comforts.
I have had several 80 series and my son is currently driving my old 97 FZJ80 so I am wanting something different.
I really don't mind tinkering on the G350, I actually enjoy it as I really learn about the vehicle when you do so, but I have several old cars in mid restoration that I quit working on a couple years ago when I did my 94 FZJ80 6.2 conversion. I really want to get to restoring some classic cars but it seems like I am devoting too much time to the G trying to get everything perfect on it.
So my thoughts now are to sell the G350 and find something better suited to 20,000 miles per year of driving and requiring minimum maintnence!
I really hate to do it, and haven't totally made up my mind, just thinking at this point.
I am just wondering if there are any better years for the 100's?
Seems like I read that the rear locker was only available on the 98 & 99's?
I plan to do a mild lift, some 33" tires and a few other things but just trying to gather some information right now, any advice is appreciated.
Rusty

TONS of info here on the site, read the FAQ and buying advice threads.

Quick info, yes 98 and 99 had rear e-locker standard. 2003+ got a updated V8 and 6-speed tranny. Also has better safety with more airbags.

Any year, in good condition, is an excellent buy and will treat you well for years to come.

The 100 is a joy to drive on the hwy compared to the 80. In fact it's pretty nice even compared to my Avalon. The only downside to 20K miles/yr is the $4K in gas you're gonna dump into it every year. If that's not a problem, then go for it. If you're doing a lot of highway, then maybe the '03 up for the 5 spd.
