I talked to the owner tonight. Its a 1 owner vehicle with service records, the 90k was done, the interior is "prestine", he is firm at $14,000. I am going tomorrow to check it out.

Look at the reciepts for the 90K service so you can see what was done. Hope they did water pump and all the seals, and the fan belt.

Hello, quick question. There is a Cruiser listed here in the classified's that I'm interested in. However, it's in Florida, and Im in Arkansas. If I go and get it and the DMV is closed down there, how do I get it back to Arkansas without getting stopped for no tags? Is there some kind of temporary tag I can get in my own state and take with me to put on it or do I have to wait til the dmv opens down there and get one? Just use my old tag and try not to get stopped or the owners tag and mail it back? Anyone ever bought one from an individual in another state than your own?

I brought one into CA from Texas. I kept the Texas tags, then transfered the truck to CA. Some states require you to turn in the plates when you sell. If that is the case, tell the owner you will mail them back to him when you get home.

Check with your state's DMV. In any case, I think a bill of sale, title and proof of insurance would be good enough for most LEO's.

Hey guys, I am always in the 60s forum but am making the jump to a 100. I am looking at a 99- with diff lock (not sure if they all have them) has the timing belt completed, good service history- - they are asking 13900.00 but I think they have some wiggle room- negatives are a hole in carpet drivers side- looks like wear from someone with highheels getting in and out, and some wear on the drivers seat leather and armrest. What say you 100 experts? I was thinking to try for 12500.00 - mileage is 116k-timing done at 84k what do you think

Given the following options, which would be preferred?

03 with 118k for $22k
03 with 110k for $23k
99 with 99k for $15.5k
99 with 118k for $13.9k

Unknown whether the timing belt has been changed on any of the above units - most dealers are clueless and I have not been able to unearth the details on Toyota's service site. Most simply state "recommended service completed".

I've been looking for a Hundy for 2 years and had several sell out under me already so would appreciate quick feedback.

Thx!

All of the above sound like good candidates and priced well to me. I would go on exterior/interior condition and options/paint color.

Sounds like you need to make a decision in your mind if you want a 99 or a 03 first...

Avoid any from a rust belt state. Assuming you can't personally inspect the rigs make them send you comprehensive photos of the undercarriage! FYI: They'll (the sales BS folks) all tell you there "isn't any rust on this vehicle" only to find a 180 degree situation once its too late.

The search

I am in the process of selling my fj60 and have set my sights on a 100. I have been looking at a good number of trucks. Most dont have the 90k done- i found one that has the 90k- 116k miles, interior has cracked leather0 they are asking 13900.00 I offered 12500.00- seem reasonable for vehicle with service history?

Any help is appreciated- I am in the process of going through the 100 faq's.

I think it's reasonable. I bought my '99 about a month ago with 122k on it for $12.5k, they were asking $13.5k. Toyota dealer serviced, 90k service completed, 120k service just done, starter replaced, new brakes F&R, full set of keys etc. Had minor cosmetic issues but nothing too bad. Driver's seat was showing some wear, had it redyed at an upholstery shop, looks like new again.

For whatever reason they still have the ad up on autotrader if you want to compare it to the one you're looking at.

How many miles...

is too many for a used 100. How long does the 2uzfe really last?

TLC newbie - potentially moving from a BMW

New member - this is my first post... I've had my eye on Land Cruisers for about a year now - have narrowed it down to a 100 series (most likely 2003-2006). We'd be trading in my wife's BMW X3. I realize these are two completely different SUVs; however, am curious whether anyone has experience with BMWs and if you could compare reliability, maintenance costs, etc. between the two? Everything I've heard about LC's is that they are tanks which, if properly maintained, can run forever. We've had good experience with the bimmer but now that it's out of warranty it makes me a little nervous.

Basically, I'm looking to buy a used SUV with a strong reliability record that we could keep for a very long time.

With respect to the 100 series, what are specific things I should be aware of when looking at ones to buy? I've tried to do some research and have seen threads on the timing belt, 90k mile service, etc. Any help you can provide is much appreciated!

If it has much more than 500 k miles, then be careful to check maintenance records.

Just have a Toyota or Lexus dealer do an inspection and run the VIN for service records, carfax, etc. Beyond that there is not much to look for. If its clean and received the required maintenance you should be set.

As for a comparison to the X3, I dont have an X3, but I do have an 07 335i and have test driven an X3 once.

The bimmer will handle better and the brake feel is going to be better, beyond that Id say the LC will beat it in every other category. As for reliability and durability there is absolutely nothing to compare.

Our 335 has had to have the fuel pump replaced, interior panels replaced due to defects in finish quality, the rear brakes squeak constantly (dealer has tried to fix it twice and still cant), the hood clamp/lock failed on one side, and almost left us stranded once due to the fact that bmws are extremely picky about fuel quality.

On the other hand, I have to two LXs, an 00 with 116k miles and an 01 with 113k miles....neither have had a single problem, both are taken offroad, long trips, short trips, towing the boat, etc......no problems at all.

German cars are way more expensive to have maintain as well

Thats my .02

I love BMW's but there will be a lot fewer "surprises" with the 100. You won't regret the switch if reliability/maintenance are your main concerns.

I drove an X3 for a couple of weeks. I can't even begin about the ride quality. It's so freakin stiff and the transmission gets confused when you floor it then let off quickly. It downshifts, then doesn't upshift quickly enough, so all you get is engine braking and high revs... could most certainly out run an LC in terms of performance and speed. But no question about any other category. If you have xenon's then the LC factory low beams won't be that great. Consider an HID kit or retro.
