Advice on 2002 LC

Brand new here but have been lurking and appreciate all the great info on this site. I wanted to get opinions on an LC I'm looking to buy--it would be my first. It's a 2002 with 108K miles and the dealer is asking $18,900. I'll mainly be using this as a daily driver and use for camping with some light off roading from time to time-nothing really hard core. The price seems a bit high, but the huge plus for me is that it's a one owner car that's been serviced and had all scheduled maintenance by a local Toyota dealer every step of the way. Also, it looks like a garage queen driven my some soccer mom. Most of the other LC out there on the market have MAJOR gaps in the service records-they are auction cars with little to no maintenance history and the private sales are far/few in between. I did have a question about the 03 versus the 04. Does the 5 spd tranny on the 03 differ that much from the 4 spd on the 02? I've also read that there is a little bump in HP on the 03. Any thoughts and comments appreciated on how big this difference is would be appreciated. Also, any advice on the 02 in general and what to really look for when buying would be great. I'm planning on getting a PPI from a local Toyota dealer as well. Checking compression is an extra $100, which I think is well worth it. Thanks everyone!

Parafrog, eh? :)

Would like to buy an ARB winch bumper for my 1999 100. Live in Birmingham, Alabama. If you have one to sell just let me know. May want a rear bumper and tire carrier also. Sliders too.

Bought the 2002 LC

Nice low miles on the 2002. The price is right to slightly high as the 2003 models are where there were some fairly significant changes and usually demand a bit more a premium.

Thanks for the input--yeah, pretty significant changes and definite price jump on the 03. I ended up buying the 02 yesterday--when I saw it in person my jaw dropped. Fantastic condition and hardly even a scuff on it. When I took it down the road for the PPI (where it was originally purchased and had all its service done), the service mgr said that it had belonged to a local physician who babied the hell out of it and didn't miss a service. I thought about continuing to wait for an 03, but I just couldn't pass on the '02 considering the shape it was in. Drove it the 90 minutes back home and tooled around a bit today--thing is amazing. My first LC and don't know why I waited so long.

Looking at all you guys' mods on the forum is getting me fired up to get started on mine. Not too much though--just enough for some camping and moderate off-roading.

When everyone talks about having the 90k service, I assume that the most important thing that occurs with this service is the timing belt replacement correct? I was looking at the recommend service list from the lexus website and this seems to be the most significant of everything on that list. Are people having things done during this service that is not on the recommended list? I ask this as the trucks i'm looking for are just under 90k miles.

I bought my truck at ~70K miles with 0 service records. I did the complete 90K when I hit 100K. Many people will tell you they have gone much longer w/o doing the timing belt. I'm not looking at my FSM so I don't know if these are included but I also did my differentials and wheel bearing repack at the same time. If you have someone do the 90K for you budget $1200-$2000 for the work.

so who has an extra good-condition A343F just sitting around? Unless you're a shop and bought one for a customer who never had it installed I guess.

I am new to land cruiser's but not toyota's. I am considering trading my wife's 07 4 runner 2wd sr5 w/ 27k for a land cruiser. I have found an 05 with 80k that the dealer wants $27,500. Am I making a mistake trading for and older car with more miles? I know the LC is alot more vehicle. Please input on the LC cost vs what i should expect in trade for the 4 runner. Thanks. Ya'll have a great board here.

That's not 'old' by LC standards. In fact you'd be one of the newest on the 100 series forum.

The price is about what I'd expect to end up with from a dealer for an 05 with 80k. You might be able to get $1-2k less from a private party. I'd say $27.5k is good. Not stunning, but good.

I'm now looking into getting an 03 lx with low mileage. I realized that a backup cam was not an option for this year which leads me to my question that hopefully some of you can point me to the answer for.

Does the 03 lx nav system have a video input that is either already provided for, or can be tapped into? This is one feature i'd like to have and unfortunately, the 03's dont have. I'd rather not put in a standalone monitor just for this function. Otherwise i'd probably want to replace my rearview mirror with a monitor inside. If i replace my stock rearview monitor, what functions will i be losing? ie.. does it affect the nightvision or sideview mirror dimming function?

Also, in the FAQ section, there seems to be a thread on enabling dvd function while driving... Does this mean that the stock navi unit can play dvd's via the center console magazine dvd player? This one i'm a bit confused about. I know that if i had a monitor in the rear, it will play dvd's but the front too?

Get a 2004 mine had the back up camera. Plus last year the old guys built them.

Looking for a 100 Deal or No Deal????

I am looking for a 100 to be my DD. I owned a 91 FJ80 about four years ago that died at 280K due to a oil circulation problem that blew the motor. I took the funds from it's sale and bought a LR Discovery and can't wait to go back to a cruiser. it runs good but I spend most of my time fixing crap on the truck instead of playing in it!!

I have found a 2001 White Uzj100 with 180K on the ticker. It looks to be a super clean, no rust, one owner vehicle. The dealer that has it doesn't know much about the vehicle since it was a trade in.

I am trying to keep the price below $10K for whatever ride I pick and they are asking $9k for the 100. Looks to have all the options except lockers. I have the Disco set up for off-roading and was thinking of keeping it for a trail ride but don't know. Figured in a year or two to make the 100 my trail rig, but have not decided.

Here is a pic

I'm new to the forum, but have needed to pic up a few things here. Just purchased my second 100. Sold the first one 1999 1/2 TLC and hated my self since. But last week pulled the trigger on a 04 LX470 with 73,500 miles and one owner. Only isssues I have found so far is condensation from, what I think from reading here, the evaporator drain being clogged--so I need to fix and the side mirrors are not working for some reason. Anyway, paid $25k and feel like that was a good price. I saw a few others in the same ball park but they all had more miles. And they were an older LX and a newer TLC. Anyway, looking forward to learning more and keeping this one for a very long time.
