My Portal is much different than a stock Portal.

I am running 6.73 gears.....not the 7:3 stock gears....my pinion is much shorter as it is a 9" versus a Mog.

My axle is about 300# lighter than a 14bolt or a stock Mog axle too.

Road? I have overdrive :D

Anyway, I still have all the Cruiser cowl and 60% of the frame left. That stuff is damn heavy, but 3700# with the bulletproof stuff I have is just fine with me.

I am very pleased!

nolen,

that is just disgustingly nice. it just looks meaner, but still cruiser, yo.

i'm mos def goin to have to make it out to texas sometime.

just thinkin abt some stuff (dangerous business, i know),

how do the guys with 50/50 (or anywhere close) weight distribution do it?

it would seem to me that the majority of the weight lost with a tube job is in the rear, and it would be hard to justify meaningless weight goin back there just to even stuff out.

maybe i'm just too naive abt the whole process, but are there any tricks, etc.?

thanks,
malphrus

50/50 is actually good for a race car, but not for a rock crawler. Mine id 65/35 and it works MUCH better climbing now than it ever did when I was full bodied and 50/50.

Weight shifts to the rear when you start climbing, so more weight on the front axle helps in everything but downhill sections.

Other than a Plastic hood, my weight savings are done.

I am fine....no need to go lighter for what I do.

I am just stoked that I can carry a full spare, a 48 Q cooler and 15 gallons of gas still in this rig.

I did not want something so small that I had to skimp on trail food :D
