HPD of Australia catch can and intercooler in the works for the LSD rear 81.

The locked 81 is getting some 50mm Slinky springs, I haven’t decided on shocks yet, Icon or King though. Yes I will weigh the truck before buying any suspension.

And more happening.....

Cheers

I don't think there's ever been an issue with 5th gear strength in the H15# boxes. They are a heavy gear and integral to the main cluster

Not the dozens of reports I have read or watched on YouTube.

Obviously not as much of a problem as on the R151 but it is still an issue. 360Gearbox in Australia wouldn’t do an upgrade nor would Terrain Tamer if there was no issue.

Towing in 5th is a known issue in many manual trans, even the NV4500 which is more robust. The upgrades are dual purpose, better cruising speed in 5th and stronger 5th.

For anyone who cares.....

I bought this Toyota tool to adjust or remove door hinges on a 70-series. It also works perfectly on the injection pump to adjust the timing.

So not saying you're wrong, but I'd be interested if you could show some comparison measurements of the standard 5th gear and the conversion 5th gear.
Is there a difference in the width of the gear?
Or a difference in other parts?

Sure but how do we know it is not simply a higher grade of steel?

Perhaps send an inquiry to TT or 360?

I am putting them in regardless. ;)

Well TT or 360 have a vested interest in telling me it's stronger.

Just curious what your observations are.

I don't recall reading about a 5th gear failure in these boxes. Not saying it doesn't happen. Just not at all common.
R151 on the other hand is well known for 5th gear failure in Landcruisers that had them.

There's huge numbers of cruisers with H15# boxes and relatively small numbers with R151 (only one model for a few years)

It’s about towing in 5th, don’t tow in 5th it won’t ever be an issue. Tow 6-8,000lbs for 50k miles in 5th, trans be pretty unhappy. But ya, you could possibly do that for several hundred thousand and not have an issue. Regardless, the upgrade is going in these H151’s.

I think you should go check out the 360 YouTube channel.

You also need to realize we are after the better HWY ratio as well.

So you can’t get the early three spoke horn button in black anymore but the steering wheel is available. I got this fairly good horn button second hand, I should be able to clean it up.

There is probably a huge pile or two in Japan of take off OEM wheels since aftermarket steering wheels are so popular over there. Myself, I like OEM. :)

The trucks are looking really nice, i like your floor jack with the big wheels on it too.

Somehow, ICON got us a set of 2.5 shocks in under two weeks. Slinky coils should be here soon as well.

Looks like the diff locked 81 will be getting some bling suspension soon. :)

Thanks! It is a great jack for the rough, gravel driveway or whatever. It also lifts way high, which is nice for a lot of things.

The other HDJ81 I have been picking away at as time allows. It is an LSD rear 81.

Had the H151 in it rebuilt and fitted a Terrain Tamer performance clutch at the same time.

I just installed OME heavies all around, fitted @Delta VS radius arms and rear Panhard bracket, rebuilt the steering, rebuilt the knuckles and rebuilt the brakes all around fitting some reman Toyota calipers. Waiting on a few parts so I can put new bushes in all the rear control arms and rebuild the front and rear sway bars. I also just installed new windows runs and inner/outer window seals plus serviced the regulators. Power windows are working great now.

I just fitted some Trekboxx drawers in the back. Got a @Delta VS front bumper to fit to it and a Front Runner roof rack. Got a bunch of little things to do as well but the Cruiser is really starting to come around. Hood is getting painted black to deal with the clear coat rash. Most of the rest of the paint on the truck is good.

Cheers

Who did you have rebuild the tranny? I am trying to decide if I teardown my H151 or ship it off somewhere...

Got two great shops for it here. This time though I went with the shop that does all the race transmissions for @Delta VS.

I have the tools to do it but time is what I never seem to have enough of.

I saw that you don’t plan to keep that truck. I would trade ya x2 80’s for it. Maybe a little cash too. ;)

Cheers

I’m struggling with the same stuck adhesive on my window frames from the visors

So on that note, the black section is getting painted with some fresh black. Clear coat peel areas are getting painted as well rather than a black out look like we had originally planned. Just got to get the intercooler on it first, too mount with a scoop so hole needs to be cut in the hood.

Cheers
