When I was in the Phillipines, I noticed they really took hold of the American Jeep, and with all the rust issues, began cloning stainless steel for parts. Jeepneys if I remember. All Stainless. Toyota, I am not sure.

Yeah they have owner jeeps they are called here. 2 wheel drive, mostly soft top, kind of follow the Willys jeep body, gas and diesel engines, AT or MT on usually a toyota chassis. Some are all stainless but LTO (Land-Transportation Office) or DMV in the states dont like the all Stainless body because of glare. Jeepneys are the big Public Transportation Jeeps made from what used to be 3/4 or weapons carriers USA left overs but now manufactured frames and bodies. I live not far from Manila in Pasig City and I have about 6 friends with Bjs and Fj40s. Parts here are a small fortune for the 40's mostly because of shipping cost + Cumtoms + VAT taxes. Chat I know but.........:hillbilly:

Rusty M,
I had actually thought of doing that exact thing[using flatbed cargoe straps] until the sheet metal guy told me he could roll the radius for me,It cost me 30 bucks but I've got all of50 bucks in each panel now and the rest of the 4x8 sheet gave me the start of two rocker panels and a good sizi piece for other things, next is the rear floor, mid floor and the wheel wells.that will be out of a sheet of 10 ga.[maybe not the whole wheel wells]I haven't figured it out in square feet yet and I did not have to get the straps and rachets, that would have been over $30!I have a piece of stainless almost big enouggh for the floor-a gift from my buddy for helping him move,

radius

I read in antoher thread that he bent plate around a 12" pipe, and it fit well,
have not tried it yet, so YMMV,

Cal-

down around here in san diego, if you want somebody to do some metal work for you they charge you dearly. I called a shop near me and they wanted 300 bucks just to set the machine up! What the heck its only about 10 min worth of work if you got a bog slip roll. ill look around some more i should find somebody.

I got the passenger side wheel well out, the patterns I made previously were ok but have room for improvement so I guess ill do that today. I really dont want to spend any money on something so easy as cutting metal but it would prolly turn out alot better then my attempt with a die grinder.?
I should probably take the top off before I go any further, yea that would be smart.
The color, it is spring green?

I just thought of something. I have no idea where i will put my rifle rack with a soft top installed. Any ideas?

ok so i got a-little more done today. So first i was gunna just replace the quarters, then the wells, then the bed, then the fwd floor panels. now it looks like i have to repair or replace the windshield frame. LOL when does it end? I hope the frame is still in good shape.

Just take it one task at a time and ull get through it. Mine was in about the same condition and now Im almost done..

well i did my lift lockers and whatnot like 6 years ago. but the body rebuild i started about a year and a half ago. I just got a few sheets of sheet metal made lots of templates and took my time with it...

Update
So I am going with a somewhat modular bed/wheel well design. My metal is cut and layed out for the bends I just need to get somebody to bend it for me.

Sawzall+14 gauge stainless steel+truck bed for work bench= pissed off neighbors.

You can try looking for other visual 'cues' of factory soft top [FST] like three pairs of vertical holes in the rear sill, 10mm holes in the face of the dashboard just inboard of the 'A' pillars, etc.

Looks kind of like tlc dino's cruiser when it came into the shop a few months ago, with a later model hardtop and ambi doors grafted on to it. You will note that the lower half of the doors do not close flush to the body. There is a reason for that.

Anyways, you are welcome to stop by my shop when you are in L.A. Might want to call first, as I some times head out to the desert for land use meetings on short notice.

Best

I read in another post you made your own soft top. I also seen the picture. pretty nice!
Do you still have the measurements or at least how big a piece of canvas you started out with, and how heavy it is?

Well,I just finished hand forming the flange on the left quarter panel .It came out looking real good and took me about 1-2 hours to form it .I cut it out last night using a circular saw with a steel cutting disc ,actually ,I STARTED it that way- too noisy and accuracy sucks because the sparks throw right in the way of your aim.I went to Tractor Supply and bought a air saw for $20.00 [It was on sale from $80.00!] great investment -not quite as noisy, easy to aim,no sparks, clean cut and fairly fast -I love it.I'm gonna start a thread with pics on my build.soon.

Thats where I love my plasma cutter. Although i still cut alot of stuff with an angle grider with a cutting disc

Shooter I think you mentioned you were going to use 10 gauge for the wells. Did you end up going that route, how did the flanges turn out? those circular saws are definitely not good for accurate cuts. I think i will look into one of those air saws the sawzall is not the greatest. I am using the die grinder for now takes awhile because i only have a 5 gallon air tank. I would love to see some pics of your handy work! You think it would be possible to form the flanges on the 14 G. SS?

Bull I want your plasma cutter really bad!:flipoff2: I found one on craigslist, Hypertherm 350 Power Max that comes with a 20 gallon, 5 hp. Devilbiss Air Compressor. the guy wants 1175 for the setup. I think its a little much, that model plasma cutter is discontinued so it might be pretty old. So yea Angle grinder it is:crybaby:

I went for a made in China plasma cutter, works perfectly for the hobby use. I use it mostly for the thicker metal. For thin metal the grinder or airsaw works better.
