How did you get it running great? Was there a vacuum leak? I have been through hell with that before. Have also dealt with cracks in the intake. I like your 40 by the way.

Actually, great is an over statement. I adjusted the fuel mix screw out a bit more so the truck won’t die when I pull off the accelerator too quickly. Flip side is the engine sounds like it’s working too hard or the rpms are too high over 60mph. Also while I had the truck in low first gear it would crawl along faster than I like.

Planning on new exhaust in the future. Someone pointed out I’m running a 2f with the exhaist/flange from the factory 1.5f. I’m hoping fixing that helps a little.

I did not even know you shouldn't do that, I always thought they were the same. Shows what I know. I had my cracked manifold welded and I used a Remflex gasket to fix the issue years back. They are more pricey but they crush to compensate for warpage of up to a pretty surprising gap, that fixed my vacuum leak, but not the rust....

Great AFI setup in the classified section right now! Not mine but a good deal. (Not the Howell brain, I am buying that)

Just practice driving with 2 feet... use that brake to slow 'er down.

I also want to add that the freshen up of your hard top was great. I plan on doing a mock restoration of mine soon. I found what you did pretty inspiring. Soft tops are fun but they suck in freezing and below temps. Plus I am getting old and temperature starts meaning a little more to a fella.

Ditched the factory step so I can run a bicycle carrier for my new ride. (Hardware choice is semi temporary)

tested out the bike rack. A little underwhelmed. They seemed to move way more than behind my van. Maybe I need to gusset that angle that is holding the receiver. Or maybe just better hardware with a reinforcement plate behind the hitch mount.

I finally closed on the new house! Four days of moving trucks beat up my body, but riding down 70 in the right lane put a smile on my face. See the pic of my 40 in its new home.

Warm weekend on the east coast. Pulled the top and investigated building a hoist system to store the top up high in the upper garage. Kids/family couldn’t get enough rides around the field. Good times.

Started making a lift system for the hard top. I need to tweak it a little before I lift it up and secure it the final time.

I was a little worried about putting weight on the bottom of the roof trusses, but I’ve got the weight distributed between a few so it seems ok.
I’m going to hoist it up with a small 120v winch and hang it on 1/2” rod at the four corners of the sides.
Issue I am having is the rigging takes up too much height. I can’t lift it high enough to clear the garage door. I’ll have to raise my lift point 5” or so.

I used a Harken Hoister system, using 2x6s mounted to the ceiling trusses, and adjusted the straps to get my hardtop up above the lip of the garage door.
