as I crawled under to take a couple pictures I heard some light scratching I thought maybe I had bumped the truck but then I heard it again and I thought ,theres a mouse hiding in there. I wanted to see where he was hiding so I swung the driver door open to take a quick look and my wifes cat jumped out at me and scared the heck out of me. So I guess theres no mouse.

The spacing on those reflecting eyes says that is a bigassed cat.

Fiberglass patched over the couple cracks in the top. Man that stuff is stinky!!

While that’s drying, gave my first go at changing the broken rear glass. Thanks to a tutorial from shmuckster a while back and a few swear words, I finally have good hatch glass.

Bunch of sanding, self etching primer on the drip rail, white primer on the top, then seam sealer over the rivits and around the drip rail.

Not as good as pulling it all apart but at least it’s waterproof and doesn’t look as bad as it did

Did a chilly ride in the Frederick municipal forest yesterday. Truck performed pretty well. Trying to figure out what’s next to fix. Rust? Heat? Power steering? Shackle bushings/Springs, Still need to find a working brake booster. Pics for fun

Riding home from hiking with the kids the 40 felt like it had some extra vibration coming from up front. So bad I pulled over to make sure the hubs were unlocked and tires looked good. A few miles later I heard a bang and the front stated really shaking. By the time I pulled over coolant was pouring out of the radiator.

Got a tow home and looked a little closer. Looks like part of a fan blade broke free and murdered the radiator???

Thanks iptman for the radiator! I put the new fan blades in from rocauto and dropped in the new radiator today. I noticed the fan blades hit the crank pully, doh! I flipped the fan and am running it “backwards” for now. Not sure if that will kill my airflow? The fins are pointed the same direction but the scoop part of the blade is now closer to the motor

When the fan blade went flying it murdered a wire resulting in loss of voltage to the fuel cutoff solenoid. I ran out of fuel 3/4 mike from the house. After a quick ride home from a stranger I got my meter and solved the issue. Roadside. It’s always an adventure!!

Great day riding around the Frederick watershed yesterday. The 40 has been kinda sputtering when the motor is under load or over 45ish mph. Probably a vacuum leak. I haven’t looked into it because I’m afraid the 2f has eaten another intake manifold.

Merry Christmas everyone!

The truck had been running great. The issue started on the way back from Cruisn’ Ocean City. It was around three hours on a hot day on the way home and I had been pushing the truck kinda hard and I started to feel it miss going up hills. Now it seems to have gotten worse and worse. Ideas?? It ides fine. Maybe could just be a wire or plug?? I can completely close the fuel mix screw on the carb and the truck won’t die, made me think vacuum leak. Maybe I have two issues happening?

Video from that weekend. I was the only cruiser I saw that weekend

Have you adjusted the Idle Speed screw lately?
Last time I messed with it, if I slowed the idle to a better sounding idle the truck would die at lights and stuff. I think the brake booster is causing part of the vacuum leak.

Awesome rig, btw.
The truck should idle on the Idle Mix screw 'circuit.' In the event of it being clogged, or the idle cut solenoid has failed, then you would naturally bump up the throttle stop, i.e. 'Idle Speed Screw.' Make sure that 12V ish is getting to the terminal, make sure that the solenoid clicks with the ignition on, or a jumper from the battery. But your carb will be out of tune if you are idling with the fuel mixture screw closed.

I can close the idle mix screw and the truck won’t stall. This means vacuum leak?

If I adjust the idle speed screw too low the truck dies under breaking. Maybe due to vacuum leak from booster?

Fuel cut off solenoid is functioning ok

(Pics of fuel mix and idle speed screws)

Pulling the plugs now to look at them. Pictured cylinders 1-6 Right to left. Cleaning them up now and going to confirm spark at each cylinder.

The choke breaker tube has a crack in it that could be a vac leak.

Closing the idle mix screw just closes part of the carb, fuel can come from the main circuit, but it does not necessarily mean vac leak. It could indicate that your Idle Speed Screw is dialed in too far.

Plugs look like a bit of lean, a bit of rich as well.
