BRIGHT headlights!

Apparently Toshiba is no longer making the bulbs sold by John Deere that fit in the lows. Prices are going up. Phillips is making them, and the supply is getting to dealers slowly. I bought my high-beam HIRs from Candlepower, they're getting some of the lows, and this place: HIR Headlights 9011 9012 bulbs

Ordered another set of low-beams. The bulbs have changed some, supposed to be brighter and longer lasting, I guess I'll soon know.

I second the HIR recommendation. Been running them in the 100 for a couple of years and they're great. PNP, no ballasts, no relays, just trim the tabs and go. Too bad they don't have the 65W 'off road only' version for the 9005/9006 like they do for the H7 on my OBXT. 2100 lumen low beams!

These low beam bulbs put out 1875 lumens, they are really bright compared to normal bulbs. I don't see specs for the new HIR1 high-beams, they were 2530, the new version is supposed to be brighter.

Have to agree - did the HIRs (high and low) last year. Big improvement.

I'll chime in too and say the HIR low beams are a nice upgrade over the stock bulbs. I haven't done the high beams... yet.

Adjustment

My adjusters in the back do not work to raise the low beams. Does anyone have ideas on how to fix them so I can raise my lights?

If not, I may have to buy new lights or do a HID conversion....big bucks!

Thanks

HID conversion costs $50.

From the JD dealer? Phillips I'm assuming? Please do report back, I've got the low-beam blues and I need to do something about it.

I just bought the Philips hir2 from amazon. Should get them Thursday...we'll see how they turnout.

From Candlepower, I read a few places about fakes on the market, decided to spend a little extra for peace of mind. A fool and his money...

I'm replacing the HIR low bulbs in my 4R after one burned out, probably won't notice a huge difference from the old ones.

Thanks, that is likely the route I will go with.

I bot the phillips HIR2 low beams and installed and my observation is yes there is a minimal increase in light but its not eye popping by any means.

Agree. Had them in my 80 and barely noticed a difference.

I wish I had a lux meter to do some side by side testing at different distances to quantify the difference in the OE bulbs versus the HIRs. I found a more appreciable difference with the high beam HIR bulbs versus the low beams HIR. It would be really neat to see the #'s from lux meter for some HID in the retrofitted housings also.

The roads around Durham aren't well lit so the HIRs have made a big difference especially with all the dang deer around here. On the highway it's hard to see the difference on low beams alone I think due to the way the headlight beam pattern is shaped. I do know that before switching to HIRs I never got flashed by oncoming traffic, but now I get flashed by 1/3 of the lower riding sedans.

That's where I've bought mine, as well (for wife's Sienna: low's & highs).

I figure I've spent good amount of time visiting their site for entertainment over the past few years and would like to do what I can, when I can to help them out.

The other place that I did consider was rallylights.com, but Candlepower told me that they (Candlepower) provides the HIR's to rallylights. (The stats on rallylight's site looked more favorable than that of Candlepower, so I had to ask what the difference was).

Hmmm. Ordered a full set from candlepower after reading the stellar reviews here. I'll be pissed if I just dropped another hundred on the hundred for nothing...!
