I'm in need of a rebuild kit for my master cylinder. I'm not sure which one I need. SOR has two listed for '75, and only one has an actual diagram. There is a 5/71-9/75 master cylinder which has both the front and rear circuit outputs centered between the reservoirs. There is also a 1/75-9/75 listed without a diagram. I believe this is the one I need, but I really don't want to order the incorrect parts. This needs to be done in a timely fashion. My master cylinder is configured as follows (from the front): F circuit output fitting, F circuit reservoir, R circuit output fitting, R circuit reservoir. It has the retainer bolt for the front circuit piston between the front fitting and reservoir as well. I do not know if this is the original master, but I have assumed it is. The truck is a mixed bag. Can anyone verify this without a picture, as I don't have immediate access to a digital camera. I can't find a pic of mine online, either. Thanks in advance.

easy.....

If you have front disk brakes use the +9/75 kit. If no FDB use the other. That is assuming you have the corresponding mastercyclinder. When one gets into deciphering other peoples' creations, all bets are off. My only suggestion in this circumstance is to post pics.

Well, the problem is it's configured differently than the master they show in the diagram for 1/71-9/75. It's an Aisin and it's definitely for drums as it had residuals front and rear. I'll get a pic up tonight.

This one?

Take a look at my carb thread and see if the master cylinder looks familiar:

This is a '78 with discs in front. I've heard of people taking out the residual valve for the rear and using this master with four wheel discs, so it makes sense that if you put a residual in the front circuit you could use it with four wheel drums.

It is identical to what you described.

It's similar, but it's not the same. That's the standard power disc brake master. I think the drum masters have a 3/4" bore versus 5/8" for disc. The lines enter on the side. I'm pretty sure that it's the weird 1/75-9/75 master, but my "sure things" often lead to the wrong part. I'll take a picture.

before you do anything, you should search a bit more on this topic as you will see some pretty informed users reccomending against the rebuild kits (and providing reasons why) versus just buying a new BMC. I was going to go the same route, and opted to buy a new Toyota BMC after starting a similar topic and reading other threads.

my .03 cents

Here's another question. Is there any reason the booster will not work will a later front disc MC? The rear bushing on the disc master looks a little smaller. Napa and the Zone have them available, but the power drum masters are discontinued. I don't see a need to rebuild if I'm not running drums.

Will a '77 style MC work with my '75 style booster? I don't see a reason why not, but might as well check before I order it. I'm swapping on discs.
