Q, whatcha think of the rye? I have a bottle of that unopened in the garage.

Knob Creek Rye is my house Rye. It's stronger then most Ryes, but works well in manhattans, the house cocktail & wife's go to drink. I enjoy it occasionally with 2 drops H20 with a rock. Now if you can lay your hands on the double barrel, thats even better straight.

Curious what your thoughts are on Caskers after you receive the bottle? I receive their weekly email and keep trying to buy from them, but many states will not allow them to ship alcohol to individuals. PA governor changed the law during April COVID liquor store closure, but used internal state company which resulted in even more complaints.

I'd been on that email for a while too, finally pulled the trigger with their $5 off coupon they have right now. It was pretty seamless. There is a dropdown that you select what state you are in and they show what's available to ship to your state -- I'd assumed it was somehow in conjunction with NC ABC, but it shipped from California so beats me.

I actually ordered the FR SB and Buffalo Trace, arrived at my house 5 days later well packaged and protected. Overall pretty happy and will likely use again.

Speaking of Knob Creek, I'd won this in a raffle in Feb. It's delicious. Been sipping it slowly, but it might be gone if we stay cooped up much longer.

I got to the store at 4:00. Guy said he got in 2 cases in the morning and this was the last one.

OTW to KS to take my Dad home from staying with us we spent the night in St Louis. The Costco in St Peters area had a decent selection of liquor at decent prices:

On the way back from KS, we stayed in downtown Lexington KY. We went over to the bar "Bourbon on Rye." We proceeded to drink a lot of different bourbon things till late, here are some:
  • "Coffee and Smokes" - Bartender, who was awesome, used a smoker thing . .weird & sweet. Some kind of local thing.
  • "The Prophet" - blend of the bottom of every bottle of bourbon they have ever bought. Was amazing actually :) Held in a decanter.
  • The local couple next to us, bought us a taste test of Old Forester's. NEWER one vs the 1920. Nice to taste that difference.
Great bar if you ever are in town and can't get out to do tours or whatever. :)

Owner was there and we had a good talk about the old time arcade next door too : )

I have a decanter at home that I use for my "Last Pours" bottle. I generally pour the last pour of any bottle I finish in it. Granted, if I have 1 pour of a really high-end bottle, I don't generally put that in. However, over the years, it's seen some really good bourbon. Whenever it gets close to full, I have a couple of pours from it and it's actually pretty damn tasty!

I enjoy following this thread. Some very inspirational stuff in here. The above picture simply isn't fair. Eagerly awaiting Eagle Rare release this winter. Not sure why Caskers will send Buffalo Trace but not Eagle Rare to NC, allegedly...

Picked up some Widow Jane 10yr. Hear good things, was wondering if anyone has already tried?

I'm torn between the value of Buffalo Trace and the flavor of Smooth Amber Old Scout as my favorites. The wife gets upset everytime I hand over $100 to @Fort Knox for some Smooth Ambler.
I'm currently experimenting with screw cap bourbon now. Birddog is ok for $30 but I will keep a steady reserve of Old Forester on hand. Old Forester is $30 for 1.5L and while it's a bit hot it's not bad for sipping. The Birddog is aged longer and much smoother but I would rather spend my money elsewhere.

$<20 for 1.75L

Pairs well with Almond Milk, too. . . .

Is that a plastic screw top?

Maybe :)

What we need is a blind taste test for "best house bourbon" at our next event with a game show element like Price is Right, where you match the price to the tester.

I'm in!!

If anyone wants to by chance sell me a bottle of Blantons or Weller Blue or Green label
I’m up for a conversation... I’m ok paying a premium for them!

I like the Widow Jane a lot! Early times is surprisingly good and cheap and agree on bird dog. We did a taste test with bird dog vs smooth Ambler and Bird dog was better.

Let me check. I can’t remember but you are right!

Going to investigate the local brown beverage store this afternoon after 7+ hours of running weed trimming. Let’s see what the locals call good stuff and the drive through beer store
