@beno and I had a date last summer at Rubithon but that never happened. I got there on Friday afternoon and spent the next two days turning over every rock in search of this Mud icon. Much to my dismay, his identity remains a mystery. This has me doubting his actual existence. So I have not checked on this thread in a while since I am stupid and have obd1 trucks...
So apparently I missed out on trying to hook @beno up with @baldilocks
I am mad at all of you for not keeping me informed on the shenanigans.
So why won’t this work on OBD1?
Hmm. My plan is to boost the 97 first, but I figure I’ll like it and the 94 will need some love. Aftermarket ECM? It’s 2017. This seems fixable. Once the 94 is 25 years old I won’t be subject to emission checks.Well technically it will so long as you want like 5lbs of boost or less. The obd1 system cannot keep up.

i "think" you will need a new crankshaft that has the ring on it for the sensor. the easy answer is no.
if you really want to go turbo then just get a stand alone and make big boost. i mean why half ass it![]()
Nobody called me. I wasn’t even in the game. I think I’m all in on the 97. I think I still want a rebuild before boost. I here a knock on startup and I’ve never found the source. You have a lot of cheap people on Mud. This is my hobby and I’m older with disposable income. 8-10 is way cheaper than an LS. That’s where my head was.Yep if you want to do it full ass you are going to need a stand alone ECU. In the US with OBDI there is very little wiggle room for boost, with OBDII there is a little more, but if you want to get crazy you will need to do a standalone. A standalone would be the next logical step in this kit, but it is a money issue. Honestly how many people after they pay the money for this kit, are going to be willing to fork out ANOTHER $4-6k for a standalone, a plug and play wiring harness and a tune? I can tell you when EMS had offered the complete kit, ECU and tune for $8-10k they didn't get a single call or email.
It might be. I’m at 170k.Are you sure the knock on startup isn't the timing chain slap? The 80 has a chain tensioner that is pressurized by oil so at start up without pressure there isn't enough tension on the chain and it makes noise.

Wonder why they changed that.It pretty much happens at any point it isn't because of wear it is because of design on the later trucks. The earlier trucks had a ratcheting tensioner that would hold tension without oil pressure, the later tensioner does not. The chain usually doesn't show a huge amount of wear, but I did have a tooth or two broken off at 130,000 miles.
Wonder why they changed that.
