This is why the shop wants to be quiet until they have a finished product. ;)
I know, but it's 2017 and Trump is president. Maybe a Russian can hack your emails and then give us the scoop.

Edit: You could give us some other projects they've worked on... I mean if they're building 2500 hp Lambo's/GTR's that would at least give 'em some street cred.

Lol no shop that can charge $200k+ for a 2500hp Lambo/GTR build is going to waste their time on $4k FZJ80 kits. lol.

So you're saying it's a couple of flannel-wearing guys in Alabama?

Are You saying the guys doing big HP Lambos and GTRs aren't? Have you been to BoostLogic? lol. I am saying that the shops that will charge over $100k for a turbo kit that uses 2 Garrett turbos, piping, and hoses, just like this kit does but can sell them to a market with money isn't going to take the time and loss of income to develop a kit for a bunch of old trucks. I am also saying that this kit will use all the same high end parts as the expensive shops with the benefit of you actually being able to afford it.

I know! The parts look really good. However, I could buy those same parts and put them together and it wouldn't end up well. Just looking for a little background because in reality, you and I are just rando's that met on an internet forum...

Yep and I am not selling or benefitting from this in anyway just wasting my time and giving my input.

If you haven’t been on Internet forums before you can usually tell the folks who actually know their sheat and have years on the board.

Those people are generally speaking not going to screw your over.

Ryan is one of the most knowledgeable 1FZ people around and a long time stalwart on MUD.

You can be confident he is not going to screw you over.

I have met 95% of my good friends over the past 14 years from this website and, truth be told, my future wife.

I know the people putting many many many hours of their own time and many thousands of their own dollars that are being spent in development of this turbo.

I can vouchesafe for them.

I honestly don't believe there is a screwing coming. I've bought a bunch of stuff between here and Tacoma World that I didn't know if it would be good/bad and it's all been fine. None of that was $5k, though. So I'll wait for the big reveal. And then there's just me wanting Ryan to give us more info or the occasional picture.

The 80 stuff is new to me and now that they're all 20+ years old, off-the-shelf is becoming a thing of the past. I've never had a turbo, but I hadn't had a supercharger until the one I have on my Tacoma. Boost is a good thing. My plan is to have Robbie do the rebuild and then add this turbo.

Well, you are going to have to wait like everyone else.
It's 2017! We don't wait.

We've talked about this before, but I've forgotten the answer. Why won't this work on the OBD I trucks?

Thomas, I totally understand. Trust me there is no one that is more like a kid on Christmas when it comes to cool parts, or even pics of stock rebuilds with shiny Toyota parts, but just bear with us, this is not something we are throwing together quickly. The shop that is doing it bought a 1FZ to mock up with and then turned around and bought a complete 80 to do all the documentation pictures on.

I would understand a little more if we were taking a bunch of money and just continuing to tell people it is coming without any proof, but so far the only person that has paid into the process is Dylan, the rest has been completely funded by the shop doing the work. And if you think about it this is not a cheap project for a small shop. Buying a 1FZ, buying a complete 80, buying over $5,000 in OEM parts, buying multiple $1,000 turbos, paying to have all the mock up and parts jigged, buying competitors systems, etc.

So while I value the fact that people are excited about this please just bear with us as I mentioned from the very beginning this is not the #1 priority of the shop, they had many other projects in the fire before I brought this to them, but it absolutely is being worked and some of the pics I can not show because they have been laser etched with the branding and that would completely give it away. And while I am sure you want to stalk the shop, they want to work in peace without being hounded about "when is it going to be done" "show us pictures" etc so that is kind of the roll that I am playing. haha.

Can't say I envy what you're doing - most of us on here totally understand how difficult a process like this is. You have mine (and countless others) complete respect for taking this on. Tell the shop to take all the time they need - things like this require lots of R&D for the best possible kit. I look forward to seeing the end result, whether thats in a few weeks or a year.

A. I’m stunned you organized this, Ryan. B. I’m equally stunned that a shop would spend this money betting that this becomes lucrative.

Well I am not sure they think it is going to be lucrative, but they are doing it to help the community, I know they won't get rich, especially for the level of detail they are putting into it, that is for sure.

Sounds about right. Also sounds totally worth the price of entry.
