2003 Land Cruiser with 201,000 miles:
1. No engine damage
2. Mobil1 Extended Milage (15k) 5W30
3. typically change the oil every 10k miles

On this batch, USPS lost my first sample - luckily I had an extra container on hand from Blackstone and I had just purchased a new oil catch / storage unit, so when it became obvious that USPS had lost my sample, I pulled some oil from the storage unit and sent that off. No telling if there was some trace manufacturing remnants still in the container, so I don't know if the higher silicone and copper are accurate or are contaminants. Will check again st 210k.

Motor is currently running like new.

2002 Lexus LX470 w/148k miles. This was my first oil change since purchasing. Iron and copper are a little high, but it sounds like it's nothing to be too concerned about based on other reports. I replaced the starter and intake manifold gasket about ~1k miles back, so that would probably partially explain the higher silicon content. Anything else I should be on the lookout for that could cause a high silicon level?

Maybe sand/dirt getting passed the air filter?

First one just came back for my new-to-me 2000 LC. Thought I had mixed up the oil samples between it and the Subaru, but turned out I had gotten it right.

  1. Damage/Neglect: Only item of note was cylinder #8 had a timesert installed at some point in its past. About a month before this oil change I was replacing the spark plugs and found that timesert partially broken with 4 of 8ish threads remaining. Has been running with all new plugs since then with no issues (knock on wood). Will be interesting to see the next report.
  2. Motor Oil/Filter: Unknown/Unknown (from previous owner)
  3. Change Interval: 10k miles (from previous owner)

Finally got off my butt and sent in a sample--my first for the LC, despite having been a Blackstone user for years. Looks pretty good, and I've been changing the oil way too often . . . was doing every 5k; went 6900 this time; they said based on the sample, I should go 9. . . .

1999 Land Cruiser with 263,000 miles:
1. No engine damage
2. Mobil1 5W30, Toy filters
3. typically change the oil every 5-7k miles

I set a sample aside years ago... finally sent it in and then followed up with another current sample. Looking like a bit of an outlier... maybe Andy will make me feel better.

I am super impressed with Blackstone's business model. They hit the sweet spot of price-point, customer fear, and useless information with zero liability. I gotta find a way to replicate this for electric vehicles...

Here’s my first engine oil test sent in for my 2000 LC. Current mileage is now 366k.
1. Damage/Neglect: none that I know of. Maybe an excessive acceleration here or there but I try to avoid that.
2. Motor Oil/Filter: Mobil 1 Full Synthetic High Mileage 5W-30, Mobil 1 Filter
3. Change interval: 5k (to start at least)

Looks like iron was very high. Need to check again soon to see if that was a fluke. I do have a lot of weight on the vehicle (bumpers, winch, etc)

Timing belt, water pump, etc were all changed at 361k myself. No issues there.

Also here’s the oil report for my Transmission fluid at 362,987 miles if anyone’s interested. Original transmission.
Report came back all clear.

You hit it right on the nose!

Been meaning to share this for a while now. This was from my second oil change back in February. Always Mobil-1 5w-30 and M1-209a oil filter.

I meant to change it at 7k but life got in the way and I didn’t get to it until 8,084. Looks like no harm was done and I’ll have it checked again at 10k.

Two more Blackstone Labs reports for the 500+ mile club, one transmission and one oil. 7,500 miles between oil changes continues to be just fine. LC is currently at 535K miles and some change. Just completed a couple thousand mile roadtrip for the holidays down to FL and back, no issues just flawless...other than an abysmal 13MPG (definitely lose mpgs past 75mph). Installed Scangauge just before the trip, trans stays very cool other than the little larger incline in VA on 77 before you get to 81, think it got to 175 then but generally stayed between 120-140.

Impressive...and inspiration to all of us who are trying to keep our rigs alive for hundreds of thousands of miles.

Transmission report
Just purchased this 2004 GX 470 and based on black fluid I saw on the drain/fill and this report, thinking it’s the original fluid (think 2004 was the first GX without a tranny dipstick/ “lifetime fluid”). Planning on doing tranny drain and fills at oil changes and doing some additional tests to see how much I can get these metals down. Am I worse off to leave this fluid as-is, or by slowly cleaning it up through drain and fills?

I’ve heard neglected fluid like this (if changed) can cause the transmission to slip as the system has become dependent on the additional friction from the dirty fluid. If I continue drain/fills, should I anticipate it will eventually start slipping?

Do a complete fluid exchange. Have done them every 90-100k on my 4Runner and Cruisers for a combined 700k miles.

Also, use the right toyota fluid. None of that valvoline 300-in-1 crap
