Ay thoughts about how they would apply to a hail damaged hood??

After reading this entire thread, i am surprised no one mentioned anything about plastidip. It's easy, it's removable and a lot easier to apply. The plastidip will be a very matte finish and perhaps not for everyone but if you don't like it, it's easy to remove and it's pretty inexpensive. I can't imagine myself doing a hood wrap simply because i don't think i'd do it well. I would probably place it on crooked or get dirt underneath while applying the product. In my hands, i don't think i could do it. I'd get too frustrated.

I've been thinking about doing this project for my lx. Once i get some time, i will try it and give feedback and pics. I got some ideas from this website.... DYC Home - Plasti Dip For Your Car - Resources & More at DipYourCar.com NEW Glossifier Had i not color matched my bumpers, i would do a two tone color scheme with this stuff. I'd have a lot less pinstripes.

From what I have heard and read, Plasti Dip would not be a good idea unless you were doing the entire hood.. PD goes on great for covering entire surfaces but can be a real PITA when trying to create edges. For good coverage you need multiple coats and when you start peeling away the painters tape the edges tend to tear.

That could be the reason then.

I painted the valence under the veil with plastidip. All wet well until I took the tape off. Nearly impossible. Only way I could see it done is to spray a large square section, and cut the plastidip with a razor an peel the unwanted off. But that would scar the clear coat.

How fast does it dry? if it takes a little while, then would removing the tape when wet make any difference?

I let it sit for 30 minutes. Dry to the touch. It's like trying to get a good edge with Saran Wrap. It just doesn't happen.

The way plastidip works is by using multiple layers. I suppose one could reapply the tape In between layers.

Still showcasing the LX on thier front page but I can't find it in products anywhere either.

I'd like to have one cover my entire front engine hood. Prevent those darn bugs juices from splatting everywhere on my paint and also prevent some sun glare.

an idea for the lc

i think the lx one should go from the top grille corners all the way up to the a-pillar.

I'll see if i can find a good shot to demon-straight.

this looks awesome!!

has anyone done this with plastidip? I'm trying it tomorrow cause I saw what one guy did in the 80 section and it turned out great

Read above, sounds like entire hood OK, part of the hood, not so much.

My guess is Isotel is reworking the design for the LX or the large material became temporarily unavailable or something like that. Hopefully the product returns for those interested.

Just thought that I would bump this old thread to see if anyone has any interest. I emailed Trevor, and he mentioned that he might be interested in getting a group order together...

I'd be in for a black-out panel.

I tried the Plasti-Dip route - nope. As others mentioned, 'Dip sucks for exposed edges. And, doing the entire hood would just look like a replacement hood that hasn't been painted.

I'm researching a DIY wrap on the hood section, & rockers. There is wrap specific vinyl that is different than graphics vinyl, and can be spec'd with a clear coat on top of the vinyl if one wanted to change vehicle color instead of painting. To do it right it's a 2 man job- to hold, stretch, squeegee and hairdryer. Let me know if you go this route and I'll help ya.

Here's a good tutorial I found on total vehicle wrapping, but tips and techniques would apply to small sections as well.
