Not to be biased, but I do think it looks best with a silver-ish paint job.

Taking the grill off to do this work? If not, what about overspray from paint can?

Yes, take the grill off. It's super easy. There is I think five clips and one screw.

Take it off.

Use a scotch pad to rough it up.

Wash it off.

Then spray with paint. I think I used rustoleum fusion for plastic. I put several thin coats and it came out great with no runs or chips.

Fun project.

Painting my grill was the first thing that I think I ever did when I got my fj60. Can't go wrong

Definitely take the grill and bezels out and rough up the silver evenly. Some of mine was actually flaking off which prompted the impromptu painting.

I also sprayed a coat of spray on primer since the first time I went gloss back and it peeled off. This time I went primer and flat black and I dig it even more.

Nice....thanks.

does the "Toyota" emblem on the grill come off, or do you have to tape it up?

while on the blacking out theme, i have seen guys talk about removing the chrome around the windows. do you have to change the rubber? any closeup picts of how this looks when removed?

thanks
jeff
