What I really want to add is these mirrors from CCOT

Just lightly sand the chrome off of your stockers and repaint yours. The ones you have are better mirrors than the CCOTs.

so as far as the grill goes....did you guys sand off all of the chrome by hand or just scuff it up nice? I am going to do it today but I don't want to spend all day trying to get off all the chrome if I don't have to.

I've wondered about this too. I would imagine that you would have to really sand it down that way you don't have any flaking going on down the road.

i just cleaned mine real well with TSP, and sprayed it with rust-oleum
protective black enamel.
has held up great for the last few monthes.

I did not remove all the chrome, I just scuffed it up really good, then cleaned it with solvent.

Love the look too, anyone have one of a 62 black grill?

I did mine some time ago. Needs touch up now, along with my mirrors. I love the blacked out look instead of chrome. Can't wait to get an ARB up front and a 4x4Labs bumper in the back, or design and make my own bumpers :D

Hey 3putt, where'd you get those wheels? Me likey.

hammer...what is TSP?

TriSodiumPhospate - common product used in paint prep. Harware stores, house paint stores, etc all have it in stock. I have an old house, and always use TSP on paint before priming - makes a huge difference.

I was playing with a can of primer gray the other day and put that on my grill-it looks pretty good, although not as sharp as the black. No pics, of course!

Very nice....I also painted tHE "TOYOTA" with stainless steel finish, masked it after it dried and painted the background flat black.

Just need a little masking tape and an exacto knife or razor.

what grit sandpaper did you use? Did it leave any noticeable sandpaper marks? How long did this take you?

I Did Mine, Sorry No Pics I Think I Used 60, Whatever Was Laying Around The House Feathering Out Where The Chrome Had Peeled Was The Hardest Part, I Got Tired After About 15 Mins And Gave It To A Friend Who Threw About 200 Lbs Of Snad At It Worked Great And Still Only Took Me 15min. Those Of You Who Did The Chrome Window Trim, Do You Do It The Same Way??

Yes, the blacked-out looks great. I've posted this pic before, but I continue to be very happy with mine.

You've probably also answered this before: Where's you get that bumper?

I'm putting a 60 front on my 62 and was going to go black until I ran across a great deal on CCOT's aftermarket grill and buckets. Now I'll stay chrome.

I recently painted my grille, side vents and 62 rear view mirrors flat black. check it out.

I don't know what to do with the toyota emblem.

Im thinking about doing this to mine since it is something I can do that isn't that expensive and will take some time so i don't get so bored.

Any advice before i start.
