Just finished watching Jim & Tim's DVD on repacking birfields. I was suitably impressed.

Thanks for taking the time to document the procedure, it is helpful to know what is involved before tearing into your Cruiser.

Good job guys!

Wow! Maybe some direction to where one could find such a great resource? :D

hi,
i got one, too, and i think it's fantastic. takes mystery out for us first-timers...

I thought I should add that I purchased the DVD, but have only had time to watch the first 5-10 minutes of it. So far, it has been great. I think it will really help me out when I go to tackle this job. I have been meaning to watch the whole thing, just haven't had time, but when I do i'll post up any other thoughts.

Thanks to Jim and Tim for taking the time to put it together!

We are glad that it is proving helpful.

Just think of the birf misery that will be avoided as a result of the new-found confidence many of you have!

Awesome idea. I just Pm'd you to buy one.

I thought it was well worth the money.

How about one for starter contacts!

If we can get Jim & Tim to do one on the starter contacts and the PHH...then we can start a DVD library.

No doubt it would be followed up by their syndicated show,"The Harris County Cruisers." :D

I guess that's better than the "Tim & Jim Hour." I'll take the PHH and starter contact DVD under consideration as both are in need of being done on my truck for good PM. I'd come closer voluneteering to do those than the headgasket.

We also filmed the rear axle service this past weekend, which is not the tedious chore like the front if you have the FSM and the OTC tool #6064 to remove the bearing lock nut.

It just so happens I DO have the SST #6064 thanks to Tim... and his efforts in finding some of them.

Slotting and replacing the gas filter is another one for consideration.....of course it... and the PHH would be mighty fun to try to film (it would probably take orthoscopic equipment). Both of these in one day would surely drive a man to drink.

Thanks guys!

I agree, i purchased one and watched it even though i've torn my knuckles down twice. Perhaps someone could do a video for normal maintenance procedures. Things like rear axle service, tranny flush, PHH replacement ect........

In reference to the above, what does Slotting mean. The reason I ask is that I'm about to replace my fuel filter myself.

Biff, run a search here on (fuel filter) there is a lot of discussion about it.

The location of the filter makes it replacement a bit of a chore.

"Slotting" refers to making the hole in the bracket that is nearest the engine block a "slot" so that you can start the mounting bolt and slide the filter into place rather than having to try to hold it and hit the hole with the bolt.

Most agree... that slotting the mount is helpful. Others (with snake like arms) don't bother.

Might as well do the PHH (pesky heater hose) while you're there.

I almost ordered starter contacts and a PHH today! Would have if my lunch hadn't been interrupted (shouldn't eat at my desk). I also already have the fuel filter.

This cannot be coincidence...it must mean we are supposed to film all three of these procedures (eerie music in the background). Then we can put all 5 procedures on one DVD. Give a discount to those that already bought the birf DVD...that would be sweet to have birf/knuckle, rear bearings, PHH, starter contacts and fuel filter all on one DVD.

Would anyone buy that?

Too bad we are rapidly entering the time of year when no man wants to be in a garage in Houston :(

I be buys one!

Get after it.

Yes!

I would put in my order for that combo dvd. It would be great for newbie like myself. Please put it together.
