This chassis as shown had the 80 series suspension weld on in such a way it gave me a built in 3" lift just using standard 80 series springs?

After heaps more wire wheeling, grinding and rust converting I sealed the cavities which will not see the light of day again with a 2 pac primer while I had the chance.
I'm not sure my dog Diesel believes I have this under control?

I also removed the bell housing off the second gearbox in preparation of the motor/gearbox installation. I have found a 12ht flywheel about 200km North of where I live, which just happens to be where my wife has a work commitment next Saturday......so guess who's taking her :)

New clutch and engine mounts will be ordered late next week, and the wreckers where I'm getting the flywheel might have a drivers door by then too.
There's not much left of the original car now-----new chassis, new body, new motor, new doors :worms:

So its a new car!

It was a busy week or so. I started strong with a quick install of the bell crank boots and springs. 1st one took an hour and the second one took 15 minutes which is pretty normal for me.

But over the last few days things have turned a bit pear shape.

I got her out of the shed this morning for the first time in 12 months in preparation of mounting the engine and gearbox. I bought an exedy clutch kit and some engine mounts.

Then the finance minister reminded me of the jobs "we" planned to do around the house.

Anyway after I organised her work load:

Clean the windows:

Mow the lawns:

Well....I was exhausted, so I snuck back to the shed......... she thought I was pressure hosing the other side of the house.

Got the clutch on etc but the release bearing won't fit the hub, it is too small. The centre bearing fits.

The one on the right on the box is the new one which came in the kit. The left one came off the old gearbox.
I don't know where I went wrong or if its my fault? I will call them in the morning, I got it locally and have another go later on .

I thought I would do a few small jobs in between the motor install and before the body goes back on while its easy to get at.
I removed all the rubber blanking grommets so I could clean the chassis and paint it, only about 30% of the grommets were in place so I don't know how many if any I should put back.

P7110014.webp

I know it would be good to have some holes left open so I can flush the chassis out with water, but I was thinking of blanking off maybe 70% and leaving just the ones one inch above the lowest points open so water and rubbish can run out.
All the square holes had grommets so maybe just them? I am going to spray a cavity wax or Lanolin inside the chassis as well.
What is usually done here??

My 1985 hj75 chassis rails where half filled with nth qld red dirt took a 2 hours to clean out with a high pressure washer. I'm happy with the factory holes in the chassis and will fish oil next summer once it starts to heat up.

I have to cut both engine mounts off the chassis, but I am unsure on what height the front of the engine should finish up?
I am thinking I have to try and line it up with the old fan height? so the radiator shroud needs little or no movement?
In these photos I still have to move the engine back 50mm but the power steering pump hits the old engine mount. So I have to cut the drivers side mount so I can move it back

P7260068.webp

I can move the passenger side engine mount forward on the engine block but it still misses the existing hole and the angles are not the same, so I will probably make 2 new chassis/engine mounts to match the ones on the 12ht.

QUESTION???????
how do I work out the engine height at the front?
I was hoping I could get someone with a FJ73 and a 3f engine to measure from top of the chassis to centre of fan so I have a reference?

Apart from the engine mounts being in the wrong position they are also at the wrong angle so I cut them off and now I shall sit the engine and gearbox back in and mock up some cardboard mounts and get them fabricated and welded into position.
I would prefer things like this welded by someone who welds like a fabricator not someone who welds like a builder.;)

I have been working between the body rust and the engine/chassis through out the last couple of weeks. I have no problem cutting, grinding, fitting new steel panels, but at this stage I am better off getting someone who knows their sh!t for the seen panel work.
My mate Ken knows his sh!t........ when he's not busy as a stunt double for Vin Diesel you'll find him in a panel shop somewhere here on the Coast squashing body filler with his bare hands...

There were heaps of holes for what looked like airlines or water or alot of electrical leads? they ranged from 15mm holes to 45mm holes so I made patches for them at the same time. Then Ken tacked them in place and I cleaned them up with the grinder. We spent 2 full days cutting grinding, sanding and welding. I swear I could hear grinding in my sleep.......that or I was at a Celine Dion concert.
