No turning back now.

Turns out from start to finish it takes about 3hrs to completely take the front end apart and yank a motor using air tools. Add about an hr if you don't have air. Even longer if you break a bunch of bolts.

Engine bay looks real decent Marshall.....is this just another way to torment our souls for weeks or is that puppy going in there real soon?

Nope planning on painting Rust Bullets black shell for the engine bay. Rest of the cruiser will one day have a new coat of paint on it.

My drop in date is next sunday. Assuming I get the exhaust fabbed up.

My old 2f had a 120 amp 12si alt and I loved it. I have rock lights, two sets of flood lights as well as a winch. But it need modification to the alt to work. I wanted something that could keep up and basically bolt right up. Nobody wanted to try to boost the original. Ended up getting a boosted 140amp cs-130 for $145.

This is all I got done this weekend. Used Rust Bullets Blackshell and sprayed it on. It's looking very unlikely that I will have it ready for GSMTR. BUt still gonna try.

A setback.

While we were taking the motor out we noticed the bellhousing had ben welded. Last time I had taken it off I hadn't noticed it. Well today I took the bellhousing off and sprayed the inside area down.

Not good.

New bellhousing is in order.

Looks like who ever welded it did an ok job. It has lasted me the last 20k.
But no way I'm putting that back in the cruiser.

So I have a delima. Either source a new 4sp bellhousing or bolt a 4spd and split case to the back.

Is there any advantages to doing a split case?

Split case pro's: quieter, stronger, lower low-range.
Con's: no P-brake

But what does the cracked BH have to do w/ the case?

And BH's are a dime a dozen. LMK how many you need and a zip code, i'll get you a ship estimate.

Agree - dime a dozen, sad to say I've tossed a few due to no takers. Call up Alan H. Bet he has one or two lying around.

Home welding and taking dog to vet today - getting here, expect you to do the same :D.

.

Well I had a 3f bellhousing laying around along with a split case. ALso had a 4speed I could get back from a friend. Dunno. Was trying to get it ready for GSMTR but now this. Not something I expected.

Marshall - why don't you pull the 2F bell housing off of my 76 2F at my house before our monthly meeting this Friday and use it - then get a replacement later. I don't need a bell housing for a few months.

There are BH's marked "3F", but they are not 3F BH's.

That is to say, a 3F BH will bolt to a 2F.
A 2F BH will bolt to a 3F.
A 74-84 tranny will bolt to either BH.
A 85-later tranny will bolt to either BH, although slight clearance grinding may be required for the drainback passages on the later trannies.

The 85-later BH, marked 3F, is clocked 7* down on the pass. side, to improve d-shaft angles.

HTH somebody out there.
