I will be buying tires soon and since I haven't done so in quite a while I was wondering if the BFG all terrains are still the better choice in the AT tire world or are there better options ?
Thanks !!

check out general grabber AT IIs

there is an extensive write up here in the 80 sections I think he ran 315s. I have BFGs now, I will not be buying another set when the time comes.

Hankook Dynapro ATm's are pretty great. I've ran them through a ton of junk now (snow, mud, wet pavement, rocks) and they have worked flawlessly. Their only downfall is mud, but that's not what an AT is for.

The ATs are pretty popular with desert prerunner vehicles, and have excellent sand traction.

There are better options for the things 80s usually do (rocks and mud), even in the at catagory, though the BFGs do have a very long tread life.

The ATs do last a long time, something to consider when buying. Never had any issues but there are better tires if you do a lot of snow and ice driving.

I've had two sets of BFG ATs and both sets lasted more than 80k each. I am running them on my DD 60. I moved to Toyo Open Country AT because I need something better off road. Ice/snow with the BFG ATs can bring the suck.

I would look at these. I have the Dynapro's on mine and they are doing very well. Still have about 9/16 tread left 25k miles in.

Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac
Hankook Dynapro AT-M
Nitto Terra-Grappler

Ive had 2 sets of BFG AT's and both wore well. My only concern that i feel like everybody overlooks, is they throw gravel because apparently SB2 fits in the grooves perfectly. You'll throw more gravel that you care to if you spend time on gravel roads. My boat got beat all to heck, the wheel wells get beat up constantly.

On top of that, depending on PSI's, the BFG AT will cause your sled to rattle in short time.

I just got a set of 315/75 Falken Wild Peak AT's I love them drove 2500 miles in 4 days wheeled in the Denver area and drove through some 15" deep mountain snow. No issues no noise. just my .02

Ive run BFG KOs on two trucks (edit - three trucks if you consider the original version before the KOs came out), and for a road tire that occasionally hits the dirt or sand, they are great - long life, decent mileage. For mud, they are terrible, will clog and not void. For rocks, they are terrible, too hard don't grip.

If I go back to an AT, I'll probably go Duratraks or something that I know will actually get me out of the occasional Texas mud hole. Running KM2s right now.

Any particular reason?

I currently have 305/70/16 MFG MT KM2's and I was planning on stepping up to 315/75/16 BFG AT's since I tend to do more highway driving nowadays :meh:

I am turned off by their price, and how they do off-road once they get into even a little mud.

they do seem to last a long long time though, so maybe that makes up for the purchase price.

Yup. I got 90k miles out of a set on my 91.

To quote a friend: "BFG A/T's suck. For a loooooong time."

BF Goodrich

I got a set of BF Goodrich 285/75R16 for my 96 FZJ80 just recently and went back to my OEM wheels me likey:D no complaints.I had two more in my garage for my M416 for when I change the axle on it (will be selling the cool looking 22" Katana wheels keep watching:princess: says is ok!!)I like toyo open country too can go wrong w/either just my 00.2 cents:hillbilly:

I have a set in 315/70/17 on my Ram and really like them, but it doesn't see that much time off road muddy BLM trails are about it during deer season. Also had a set of 33/12.50/15s on my Jeep YJ that i picked up used and they treated me pretty well too but I never had them in to nasty of mud. If i found another good deal on them I would buy them again.

I've had BFG AT's on my last three rides (CJ-7, TJ, and now the 80) and I've never had a complaint (except for heavy mud). Sadly, the 80 doesn't see as much action as the Jeeps did, but I still think that they're a great tire for my needs.

Yes, theyre great.

Go for it.

Have run a set on both my 60 and my 80 in all conditions. No issues and have been happy with them.

They seemed to do ok in the mud with a little horsepower (other truck I have) and they were surprising great in snow. GREAT tire. Mine are dry rotting early though. 30,000 miles. Not bad, but AZ heat is rough. Look at Nitto. They make a great AT. I won't ever run BFG again after two blow outs with them.
