Best is relative. Do you mean most original looking?

My understanding from this site is the CCOT is well made and the most original looking of the options and it's steel.

I heard that the FJ Company gets there body panels from here.

I would check them out. I can get an fj43 half tub delivered to my door for about 4500...

Not familiar with that vendor. Anyone here any any experience with them? They have full quarters with wheels wells and the top lip - which is exactly what I need.

I believe none of them are hand crafted USA made if that makes any difference. The CCOT is too expensive IMO.

I like @thecrazygreek link there. 1/2 tub delivered for $4500 seems right. Again, I would still try to find the cleanest body FJ40 you can find and then fix/change anything else.

What would you use to fix/change rust? Donor metal from another 40 series?

Depends on the piece, but there are rear sills, corners, rockers all sorts of replacement parts if its just a few areas. I wouldn't do a whole tub unless my tub was just trashed.

What about bottom of doors and hardtop corners?

To me the front doors are very fixable, the rear will take a little more work welding in patches but not that much. A decent metal worker could fix that hardtop as well but I'm not aware of any patches. If you were going to repaint it all, just source another hardtop panel thats clean.

If thats the major rust on this FJ40, I'd say it's really solid.

Neither.
T7 from france 3/4 tub will run about 9K delivered to a US port, wait is about 11 months. 1/2 due at initial other 1/2 due before it ships. they ship in thier own containers to prevent damage.
