Hate to quote myself but mystery\question solved.

Hard to believe that I would be the only one to have a sidewall puncture with the Wildpeaks even the SL so did a google and first thing that came up in AI is from a year ago:

Sumitomo Rubber USA LLC is recalling 1,900 Falken WildPeak tires due to a manufacturing error which may have resulted in a puncture in the tire’s sidewall. The tires include Falken WildPeak AT3W in size 265/70R17 115T

So 2 of my mounted tires have been recalled, guessing that the flat was also a 3423 but last I seen it was on the floor of a shop on the North Shore of Lake Superior next to a pile of moose antler sheds.

Will be spending some time on the phone tomorrow with Sumitomo customer service to see how they want to handle the 2 recalled tires and if anything can be done about the one that alerted me that there might be a problem because of sidewall failure. Be interesting to see how they handle this. Like I tell software vendors that call on me at work I just want your stuff to work. And when it doesn't I want great customer support.

Given that you probably have some miles on the remaining tires and they would be quite a bit different in wear than a new set, I really hope they just give you all four! The AT3W is discontinued anyway and it would be somewhat suprising if there were a few in your size left sitting around that hadn't been installed. I'll also be curious in terms of how the handle this.

FYI, I'm liking my AT4Ws even more than the AT3Ws I had before. They're a better off-road tire for sure.

I have been eyeing the Cooper Discoverer Road+Trail AT for my GX470. Looks like a great all-around tire with slightly more aggressive styling. I am currently running Michelin LTX M&S - they have been good to me. Probably going 265/70/17, maybe 285/70/17 if the trimming and what not is not a huge job. I also hear the 265/70/17 is a more efficient tire on gas. Any thoughts on these?

I run 285/70R17 LT E Revo 3s and if it's keep it under 70, am not climbing in elevation or going into a headwind I can still.get 19-21 on the highway. One must drive very miserly though.

If i go into "Houston" mode it can quickly drop to 14-15. Which makes sense when you talk about the mass our vehicles have and the energy required to get them moving or slow them down.

on stock setup running through severe stop and go traffic i can achieve 3-5 mpg instant fuel display while on the flip side long highway straights i have gone 22-23.

Cooper ST Maxx vs Falken RT 01- any thoughts which one to choose? ST Maxx has a very good reputation, but it was developed over a decade ago. Unfortunatelly There's not much information about Falkens, especially here in central Europe. Road noise and wet performance is more important to me than offroad capabilities in this case. Do you have any comparasion between those 2?

Both of those two tires comprise the things you want in favor of offroad capability. If wet performance and road capability are your priority, something like an AT KO3 or yoko AT04 might give you more satisfaction.

Unfortunately, where I live, I often have to drive for several hours on the highway to reach a good offroad trail. Once I get there, there is a lot of mud and slippery ascents/sidehills, where an AT tire can simply be unsafe. On the other hand, MT tires are so tiring on the road that they completely take away the desire to go out. That's why I chose RT tires. I assume that both the ST Maxx and the RT01 will be tough enough off-road, so the main deciding factor is lower noise and better grip on wet asphalt. I previously had Radar Renegade RT+, but they were terrible in the rain.

I was pretty surprised by how well Revos did in occasional mud. They are in the middle of being replaced by the Dueler Ascent and they don't have full size availability in either tire.

Full story, I cupped a set of MTRs and then blew out the sidewall of my oem tires so I opted to get the Revos and they were really good. I have videos Here is one. That was with Revos.

I do know a few folks that liked the Yokohama X-ATs. Duratracs also kinda fall into the between AT and MT tire.

I know it's after the fact you already have your tires, but BFG M/T's (KM3) are quiet (until they're more than half used) and great for road trips.
Although I do like my BFG KO3's better.
No idea if you can get BFG's in your country.

Myself, I couldn't give an objective delineation between the KO2/3 and KM3's in measured terms of decibels. After 20+ years of running both I know that the KO2's are quiet throughout the life of the tire and the KM3's get a little loud after about half tread life. But they are still much quieter than many of the other M/T's out there.

My experience with AT KOs and KO2s was similar. I won't buy another set and I usually don't recommend them. I know they are a great tire and lots of folks swear by them. I just don't think they are refined enough for their traction profile. But i am one of the few people that regularly wheels on Revos.

Those are two hybrid tires I actually consider with every tire purchase. I also see a lot of people using Kenda RTs but no idea how they last or their road manners.

Yoko not available in my size, Duratracs have very poor wet performance (according to internet ) and costs 50% more than Cooper or Falken.

I've run both. The ST Maxxes were more stout. I put over 50K on them and zero punctures, they hardly worn down. I have 25kish on my Falkens and they've had several punctures from screws/nails on the road. They seem softer and are wearing slightly quicker, but they still have tons of tread left on them.. not wearing fast by any means.

The snow and rain performance with both is similar. Both do well. The ST Maxxes are significantly more expensive, so I'd probably do the Falkens again in the future.

I did have more trouble getting the Coopers balanced (on a road force balancer). Could have been the shop, but I've heard other people complain about the same thing.

Well, I'll spam once again

So, the decision now comes down to: 285/70/17 Cooper ST Maxx (maybe Falken RT01, just because they look so good) or 295/70/17 Geolandar G016. According to the specs, the G016 is 0.5" taller, but I think it should still fit on a completely stock LC100 with AHC (8" rims, et60) without any rubbing, even in LO mode. Price isn’t really a factor since the difference is less than $10. I’d assume road performance and noise are pretty similar, but mud performance might be the deciding factor.

I didn’t mention the 295/70 ST Maxx because for some reason, they’re 40% more expensive and harder to find in the EU.
