Thats unfortunate, and i assume they are the defender ltx m/s 2? Those are really popular amongst the GXer crowd (the 200s section has a huge dedicated thread as well singing their praises) who want the ultimate balance between onroad performance and tread wear, probably the gold standard? I think some folks who want more performance at the expense of increase tread wear and added road noise go cross climates 2s.I hate the LTX on our Sequoia and can't wait until they are worn enough to warrant replacement. They are garbage even in light rain the ass end slides everywhere. Terrible in snow
Aside from all the other qualities of the M/T's and A/T's from BFG, for tread wear, I swear by BFG. I usually get ~60k on a set, assuming I keep them maintained, e.g. air pressure, rotated, and no sidewall punctures from off roading.Thats unfortunate, and i assume they are the defender ltx m/s 2? What tire do you recommend?
You thinking of trying the '03s next or sticking with 02?Aside from all the other qualities of the M/T's and A/T's from BFG, for tread wear, I swear by BFG. I usually get ~60k on a set, assuming I keep them maintained, e.g. air pressure, rotated, and no sidewall punctures from off roading.
I really want to get off these BFG 315/70R17 KO2's and get down to a 285/75R17 KO3.You thinking of trying the '03s next or sticking with 02?
FWIW, my 34x10.5R17 KO2s are quite a bit louder on the highway than the 285/70/17 Toyo A/T IIIs that I had prior.I really want to get off these BFG 315/70R17 KO2's and get down to a 285/75R17 KO3.
I don't like the rubbing, albeit, very little, and don't like the extra hit on MPG with the tire size and extra width.
When I had the 285/75R17 KM's that was the sweet spot, only issue was they started to get noisy at about half thread life. If I had something that was not supposed to be "luxury" I wouldn't have mined the noise, but when the wife and I are on the road, we do not want to hear tires.
These 285/75R17 KO3's should be perfect.
Are you on stock gears at that tire size? Seriously considering that size (in Toyos)FWIW, my 34x10.5R17 KO2s are quite a bit louder on the highway than the 285/70/17 Toyo A/T IIIs that I had prior.
Yes, stock gears. Highly recommend this size. Might go up to skinny 35s at some point but these are a great compromise and seem to have had less of an affect on road performance than the 285s, must be the narrow width and subsequent less rolling resistance. Are you on stock gears at that tire size? I thought about those, as they are also super-light for the size. Wasn't quite ready to dry a discount set of tires on the GX given how much I use it, but they certainly seem attractive. I do have one as my spare and got it for around $175 from Wally World. If anyone wants cheap - I run these and they're currently on sale. <$800 for a set of 4, in P285/70/17.

They've handled everything I've thrown at them so far, and seems like they're the more road-focused, more snow-capable A/T version of the very popular Kenda R/T. Sure, they're probably not as quiet as a Toyo or as capable as a Baja Boss, but they're also nearly half the price. I'm 30,000 miles in and they have about 1/3 to half tread life left.
I agree, if my rig was only ever on tarmac, probably, but I'll pay the extra for a tire will not puncture as easy in the middle of nowhere. Also, what's the estimated mileage one can get out of those tires? If it's not close to 60k, again I would probably pass.I thought about those, as they are also super-light for the size. If they are half as much and last half as long, they are still a good deal considering the time value of moneyI agree, if my rig was only ever on tarmac, probably, but I'll pay the extra for a tire will not puncture as easy in the middle of nowhere. I passed on them due to the potential of a puncture issue and how well the Wildpeaks are done. But, I'd certainly be interested in trying them next time. My Wildpeaks were $283 a piece, which were too darn expensive!
I'll go look in the morning - I think they are LTX M/S2 - keep in mind they are on a Sequoia not a GX. The GX has Michelins that have been great but it has seen almost solely on road duty besides some gravel and light sand. The GX I have not had issues with - the tires on the Sequoia are bad.Thats unfortunate, and i assume they are the defender ltx m/s 2? Question for you if you don't mind, are your Wildpeaks SL or E rated? I assume they are the AT3W?
I love my AT3W's especially in the snow and ice, best tire think I have ever had. Went with SL due to weight and ride comfort. Over the last 15 years or so haven't had E rated tires the SL tires have come a long ways and never had an issue with them. Until a couple of weeks ago when I bruised a sidewall bad enough the tire had to be replaced with a Goodyear Wrangler or some such take off. At the only shop within 120 mile radius I couldn't be picky about it lucky they had a 265\70r17 as it was.

Same rock field I have been over numerous times with other various SL tires in my Taco over more than a decade, never had a problem before.
Why I buy 5 tires at a time but now only have 4. Sitting here debating getting a replacement AT3W but they are hard to find since the AT4W came out and the AT4W are different in weight and diameter, the AT3W just barely fit in the spare location as it is.
Really like the AT3W snow and ice performance like I said and have at least 5 months of that to deal with, starting right now. But am a bit worried about the sidewall strength of the AT3W SL which I guess is now improved in the AT4W. With less than 10K on each of my AT3W dumb to replace them with any other tire at this point. And will not be running many rock fields for another 11 months.
If yours are AT3W SL then that is good enough for me to jump on one of the last remaining ones I can find. If yours are E rated then I need to ponder this some more but don't want to go down the E path if I can help it. For years that is all I ran. The Wrangler doesn't fit in the spare location fully so it needs to go away. Sooner than later. Appreciate the insight on yours!
They are the Michelin LTX A/T2 - Horrible in rain or snow on the Sequoia-it hydroplanes at the sight of water and loses traction easily unless in 4H in the slick stuff, and even in 4H it struggles way too much even in moderate snow, not to mention ice. The GX has LTX M/S2 and they are fantastic but those are road-oriented tires. But seriously ... can you tell us how you really feel about them??![]()
