Hi folks,

I’m looking for recommendations for a high-quality 2” receiver hitch for my Toyota Land Cruiser KDJ150L (2010, EU model) – the European version of the GX460. My main criteria:

🔧 Vehicle: Toyota Land Cruiser KDJ150L, built 2010 (same frame as GX460)

🌍 Location: Europe (Germany)

📐 Goal:
  • Best possible ground clearance and departure angle for offroad use
  • Capable of towing light trailers up to 1.5 tons
  • Regular use with a 2″-receiver bike rack (Thule, Yakima, etc.)
  • Ideally OEM-fit or close to it
  • TÜV-compliant or easily registrable under EU type approval
I’d prefer something:
  • Close to Toyota OEM quality (PT228-60141 etc.),
  • With a clean bolt-on fit (no bumper trimming),
  • And usable for both light towing and accessory mounting.
Any experience with the NYTOP Rear Tow Hitch Receiver or similar GX460 solutions?

Any insights about E-marked or EU-compliant options that would still give me 2” receiver functionality?

Appreciate your thoughts & photos if possible – I want the best compromise between utility, compliance, and off-road performance.

Cheers from Germany,

Ben

Do you have to keep the factory bumper or can you go with an aftermarket steel bumper.
Most of the aftermarket bumpers have receivers built in.

Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply!

Ideally, I’d like to keep the original factory plastic rear bumper.

I assume that with most aftermarket steel bumpers, I would no longer be able to keep the original rear-end look or mount the factory rear bumper at all.

I’m looking for a hitch solution that is as stealthy as possible – ideally something that disappears into the OEM plastic bumper and doesn’t stick out visibly when not in use.

Do you have a solution like that for the KDJ150 / GX460 platform?

Thanks again and best regards,

Sorry, I don't have any suggestions as I went with the full off road armor.
You can view it here: Builds - R²M 2013 GX 460 Overland Build - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/r-m-2013-gx-460-overland-build.1104719/
A couple years ago, I recall a lot of folks saying it was really difficult getting factory receivers for our GX's over here, and they couldn't even offer them to people purchasing brand new GX's. Not sure how the supply is now, but only concern would be, if you found something here in the U.S., the costs may be more than the product.
Do you have any fabricators in your area that you could have weld you up a receiver? Doing that, they should be able to make it very discrete.
Good luck!

Thank you r2m for your insights. Absolutely I just love those overseas 2“ hitches so much.

We have vendors but always with the ball adapter mostly fixed and looking European boring. I am going for the Westfalia here Westfalia Anhängebock Anhängebock + 13pol Elektrik - https://www.rameder.de/156135

But you guess it: it’s sold out since moths. Urgh …

By the way nice rig you have there!

Here is it’s lost brother …

Is yours a petrol or diesel?

I've been using the Curt class 3 hitch receiver for a few years and have had zero issues. I've used it with a thule 4 bike carrier and kuat swingout on mild trails and with typical US highway driving (60mph+). The install was easy using the pre-threaded holes already in the bumper.

Thanks mudmoose; that’s really interesting! Could you elaborate if it is only the hitch receiver (like this https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hitch/Lexus/GX+460/2012/C13043.html?vehicleid=2012303084) or the full bumper you installed (like this https://leonardusa.com/product/bkdk-13282/)?

Did you have to cut out plastic from the rear bumper? Thanks for sharing 🍀

I have the NYTOP hybrid rear hitch. I did have to trim the lower rear valence slightly, but it really isn’t noticeable even up close. The powder coat on NYTOP is poor, though.

It’s the hitch receiver like the one in your first link. Bolts on to the underside of the rear bumper. No cutting required. Allows for a 265/70r17 falken wild peak at3w to be stored in the factory spare carrier.

You are going to give up a few degrees of departure angle. I’d rather skid off my $150 hitch receiver than the more expensive bumper.

Amazing thanks for sharing. With my Toyota LC 150 Prado I see no way to install this under my bumper. Tried to take a picture underneath and see no screw options plus the spare carrier would leave no space imho.

I gave the vehicle to professional garage for installation as I could not find the signal button for deactivating the parking buzzer.

I am excited to see if they managed to install everything. For the documentation I will post it here. And would be nice if Mudmoose would share his thoughts on the above. Cheers
