I am considering getting a Sirius Radio Stratus 6 installed in my 2003 Land Cruiser.

I am trying to have the install be relatively seamless and functional at the same time.

Am considering removing the ashtray and having a mount installed in the roof of the ashtray cavity. < does that make sense?

It would basically cover the ashtray compartment.

The antennas would be mounted where the dashboard meets the windshield. The bubble looking antennas. They don't seem to disturb the stock "look" too bad.

What do yall think?

Also, I need to replace the front speakiers cause the driver speaker is blown. Thinking of going with some JL Audio TR650 CXI.

Having that done will run - $450 for the Sirius and the front speakers - and an ipod adapter.

Does that sound reasonable?

And while I'm at it, should I replace the rear speakers? They do work fine - for stock?

I'm not going for any blow your doors off system or anything....

I appreciate your feedback!

you can mount it right by the windsheild wipers, I have seen many cars with setups like that. Or you can mount it right behind the 3rd tail light. about 3 inches forward on the roof. I have also seen that.

I don't have a pic right now, but my Sirius receiver is in the garage door opener holder up by the rearview mirror. You can close it so you don't see it, or you can leave it down like I do.

I used to have mine on the front of the roof by the windshield, then on the back by the hatch. Somehow my antennas keep getting messed up so now I'm running my third, inside on the dash. Sometimes the reception isnt great (when heading north) but it should finally be protected.

I went with function over form for all my aftermarket accessories (GPS, Sat radio, and ipod). While some (or many) may say it's cluttered I like the fact that everything is right there, without me even having to remove my elbow from the armrest.

I used the vent attachment and fed the wires through the vent. ipod/iphone cable in the ashtray.

Anyone have a pic of the rear tail light antenna option?

This is where I put my XM and GPS antennas. Both just far enough to open the back without them hitting the roof.

I installed my starmate by removing the ash tray.

I just superglued the suction cup of the windshield mount to the metal "track" that the ash tray slid in. Wires run under the center console to the HU. Antenna goes to the Driver-Side kick panel, up the windshield (wire behind the trim piece), and to the roof. I'll get pics and post them up for you.

Thanks Bama....would like to see that.

The thick wire you see is for the windshield-mounted Garmin. The Sirius install is VERY clean. I need to get some AUX power plugs and move those behind that lower panel. You CANNOT cut and splice the Sirius power supply since the plug-in has a transformer knocking power down to 5.4V.

I recently put one under the rear cap on the roof rack. No cut outs on the reception.

I did the same thing with double stick tape. 2 years later, no problem.

Toyota locates it above the rear hatch with the factory option
Phil can you help me identify if I've a factory or aftermarket SAT radio and how wired?

I'm trying to figure out how this Sat radios (Factory or aftermarket) is wired in before I start pulling off panels to trace wires.

All I know in this 06 LC (Snowy) is antenna is at rear: Sirius P?N SIR-3.3WNCM0801 Model NO: UCA-S made in China.

Just based on that pic of the antenna, I'd say that's aftermarket - I've installed that antenna in two other vehicles when I bought the roady or something close to the roady model about 5 years ago.....

What is most common way they antenna wire is routed?

Where would power for SAT radio be tap in?

Any other components installed for aftermarket that may be hidden from view?

Note: I don't have any other visible components! I do know dash molding around key on drive side was pulled at some point for some reason.

I don't know the most common way the antenna wire is routed - that wire gauge is super small so it can go pretty much anywhere, I've ripped the wire before. Do you know what system you have installed or does it just pull up through the radio? I only ask as my 2002 is a aftermarket unit so I have the satellite faceplate separate from the radio. If aftermarket there has to be a receiver somewhere - I am pretty sure my receiver portion is in the back behind where the factory jack goes. I'll post up where the receiver is once I verify.......

I don't know what system was install, as it seem to mostly gone. I only found antenna.

I did track the antenna wire going rear to front on PS along headliner under molding. It then crossed over to lower center dash below head unit. I'll need to pull molding around head unit area to see if connected to anything or just where antenna wire is lying.

What I'm doing is looking for cause of parasitic draw on battery. Actually I know it's the DVD player, which is as PO stated to me. He said it was the SAT Radio installers or install that caused it. So I'm looking for anything that could have caused a short related to SAT radio. I suppose something could be unplugged or clip on back of head unit which causes DVD to stay on. But I'm now leaning toward a short in DVD system that may have not had anything to do with Sat Radio. PO just may not have understood what shop was telling him, or I didn't understand him.

Clip antenna wire leaving the what going under dash until I see where it ends.
