Time to get a new battery for my FJ60. Wanted to see what my best option would be. Want to get something that will last and powerful enough not to have any issues cranking on a cold NE day.

These worth the extra splurge?
Optima Battery 34-78

I've had good luck with Optima's, but my impression is that reviews are very mixed. If you do get one, make sure you keep your receipt just in case

Stay away from Optima IMO. They used to be a decent battery but I stopped buying them after going through several that died prematurely. If you're going to splurge (and get an AGM battery) get an Odyssey. Deka would be a good second choice.

If you don't run a fridge, house accessories etc, you don't really need an AGM battery; get a sealed lead-acid, they're cheaper. AGM batteries allow deeper discharge % (giving you more effective amp-hours before sulfation sets in), but take longer to fully charge and aren't any better of a cranking battery.

Whichever you choose, get a battery tender and plug it in whenever you're going to let it sit for more than a week. Allowing any battery to go completely flat (either AGM or lead-acid) is what causes sulfation and it's pretty much a terminal condition. Keeping the battery at a full charge state as much as possible will increase its longevity.

I'll leave this here not cheap tho

I’ve had good luck with interstate brand batteries. Also I have a interstate store nearby so it makes it easy. Any battery of the correct rating and size/layout should be fine. Unless the label was taped on with scotch tape you bought off the back of some guys truck at a gas station.

What's the ANL fuse for ? Very high-quality, clean install, btw :)

Northstar, Odyssey and Interstate are all great batteries. Believe it was either Deka or Odyssey that used to build the old Sears Die Hard Platinum back in the day. Mine still seems to be going strong after 7yrs but she is starting to have a harder time cranking on those cold mornings. Don't know if the battery is just getting weak or if my starter is, have a feeling it is the battery. Since a good friend owns the local Interstate distribution here I will purchase from them if it dies before I sell BeBe.

I was kinda sponsored back in the early 90s by deka batteries for my spl lowrider truck back then i think deka was a interstate battery of some sort but first gel cell battery then optima battery came out they were a game changer then they started to go down hill in the 2000 area optima batteries were the s*** back in the day.

Who makes those batteries?
