Replace your voltage regulator. You prob need to replace it if you're dropping below 12v while driving.

Its only headlights and ac on. Its mostly headlights that cause the drop.

I put the Interstate Mega 27 in all my Cruisers. They are excellent top-quality batteries. You can order them from Costco.

Since the Sears DieHard Platinums have gone NLA, I've used the Wally World Everstart MAXXX batteries with terrific success. I abuse them by running my compressor with the engine off, also leave the pile parked for a long time (weeks, occasionally months) without recharging, never had an issue going on 4 years.

Sears DieHard Plat were rebadged Odyssey, and about $100 cheaper, at the time... The Odyssey perpetually gets CR best battery, but Oy! the price!

I think the Interstate Smegatron can be had for around $150-ish ? Been a while since I bought one, though.

An update to this: Interstate was not testing the battery correctly. They were not inputting the CCA on their tester.

It failed after two other places said the battery had a dead cell.

I upgraded to an Optima Red 34/78 and a bluetooth battery monitor. It really works properly now and I'm very happy with it. I'll end up with a yellow as my extra battery soon enough.

I had an old red top Optima last 11 years. Sadly they are now made in Mexico and have had lots of negative feedback. I thought a bout the X2 AGM battery but at over $300 US it would have to last 3 times longer than an ave battery to recoup the value. In the end I bought a Deka battery for about 100.00 and has done great so far. The thing is we don't really know how great they are until they have been in the truck several years and by then the manufactures go out of business or change the process so you can't get that same great battery.

Agreed.

The only reason that optima won out is that most parts houses like O’reillys stock them. That’s it. I’m not going to let cost get in the way of getting home if the warranty is up. If i get over two years with this battery I’ll consider it a win. I paid about $220 for it.

Only OEM Toyota for me and my Personal Fleet

They meet All my needs ........

I'm running the X2 group 27 as my auxiliary battery. Have a Toyota battery for the starting one. Plan on upgrading to the X2 after that dies. Best warranty on these batteries period.

I really thought about that but I'm more likely to find an oreillys than a Toyota dealer.

hey Alex,

was not sure if u knew or not that the Interstate company make the True Start for TOYOTA here in North America , including CANADA .........

I believe in the interstate batteries but even in a huge city like Houston, there’s only two stores.

Even in the middle of nowhere Texas on the way to big bend, I found an O’reillys that had optima.

I know people enamored with Toyota parts, but batteries? Not only is there nothing special about their batteries (that I know of that is), but there are better batteries out there. And unless they are inexpensive, which is not highly unlikely, I see less than no reason to go Toyota. I know people can be purists, but really?

Is there a technical / financial reason why? I assume they are more money.
