ARCHIVE Battery Disconnect Overkill...my OCD will be my downfall (1 Viewer)

My goal is to ship these out this week. I screwed up last week by using 1awg cable that was mixed in with 1/0 and I didn't notice it until I was trying to package things up. Not all cables were affected! Just one particular one which is good. But I should have noticed it earlier. Its my own fault. :(

All of the new supplies should be arriving between today and tomorrow. I will then get everything sent out by end of week. I'll be happy to be done with this project.

Also, I'm trying to decide on a decent way to label wires without being annoying about it. Any suggestions?
brady bmp and some nylon cloth labels

can't be too annoying with labels...

...The new 1/0 ground cable will go from the block to the Flaming River Disconnect and then from the disconnect it'll split to the body ground and battery ground...

So there's always a return path to battery negative through the body ground wire even if the disconnect switch is open? So what happens when the switch is open and you turn the ignition to start? The return path is then starter to block, block to body, body to battery negative though a 6awg wire? I must be missing something.

i would hope the body ground will tie into the same side of the switch as the block ground will... but you're right... he didn't really write it that way...

or hope your motor and exhaust is completely rubber isolated from the body?

Yeah its one of those "I knew what I meant in my head but didn't write it correctly" type of things. I'll do a drawing now to explain better. Give me a few mins.

I've lost all of my original schematics so I have to redraw everything from memory. Boo.

Anyway, here is the original OEM ground path and the new ground path with the Battery Disconnect Mount. The 15A fuse is there for the radio, clock and ECU only. If long term storage then the fuse should be removed as well. For security, if someone tries to hot-wire the truck, the fuse blows.

In essence, all I am doing is putting a disconnect inline with the main ground wire.

I think you're going to have to put the body ground on the disconnect-able side of the switch for it to function like you want. That body ground is sufficient enough to negate your disconnect in most cases. It also nullifies your 15a fuse.

I think I needed to show a more obvious path. I didn't notice the white block in the first image. Changed it up to be far less ambiguous.

The fuse will blow if the user forgets and leaves the disconnect switch open and turns the ignition key to start. All of the current for the starter will go through the 15A fuse and :(. If fact it will likely blow if the switch is open and you turn the key to ACC with the radio on.

EDIT: To understand the situation better you need to modify both the OEM and BDM ground layouts to show a connection from the motor to body ground.

That looks more betterer.

These are finally getting packaged up to ship out. I just need to get different boxes since I didn't estimate correctly. Then do final testing with my 12v power supply and then label the wires. Then box and ship!!!!

So happy to finally get these done and out of my hair :P

Well it's only taken me freaking forever to get these dialed in but the very first one is done and is ready to be boxed up and shipped. These are getting packaged up in no particular order. First up is @dogfishlake

The boxes I got were 1" too narrow so first thing in the morning I'll grab the boxes I need and this will ship out!!! I'll be packaging up the others after I get some lunch in my belly :flipoff2:

Yippee ki-ya! That is most excellent.

The next units are freaking CLOSE to shipping. I noticed a couple things I missed but I have a 12v power supply to double check. Trying to reduce dumb mistakes.

Fire extinguishers!!! Keep em close :P

You talk about leaving tools on the battery, what about the micrometer you used to almost connect the positive and negative?

You mean the calipers? I don't own a micrometer any more. Not quite sure what you're asking.

I got my very special care package today, was so busy I couldn't stop to open it up. Wound up being the last one at the shop so I just took my time to enjoy opening it.

Mine is ready for pick up? I will be there tomorrow. :D

Glad you are liking it. I found an issue with all of them during testing but I only had enough components to actually finish one so that was yours ;)

I realize there may be some questions that come up as start installing it but I will try and help any way I can. Please use the most recent ground illustration from a few posts back so that you get everything how its supposed to be with the ground cables. They are almost self explanatory but juuuust in case I'll be hanging out and have the phone near by just in case.

For everyone else, I am just waiting for some stuff to come in and than I can rapid fire all of these and get them delivered. Except for @mryanangel because he'd sending me some stuff to do something more custom with his setup.
