I noticed that only on 1997 LC & LX don't have the rear badge that reads "4wd full-time"

Have you guys noticed it? Do you now why Toyota stopped placing the rear badges on 97 models?

I noticed this when I compared my 97 LX with my dad's 96 LC. But just yesterday, my uncle purchased a 97 LC (and it didn't have the 4wd full-time badge) just like my LX

As far as I know all the 97's had the " Full time 4WD" badge. All the 97's I've seen have had it and toyota lists part # 75431-60060 for the 1997 model badge. Maybe the previous owner just took it off? Looks like you can pick up a new one for about 20$ according to the website I'm looking at.

It's there on my '97 LX (which has gold colored badging).

It is not on the :princess: '96 LX (which has silver colored badging).

(Don't have a pic of the rear of the :princess: truck off hand.)

my 40th has it in black pearl (or whatever they called it)

I have it on my 96 LC, but it's a lot lower than the one in Ebag's photo. Mine is level with the reflector at the bottom of the tail lamp.

Toyota lists the same part # for the 97 land cruiser and the 97 lx450. Both had the "full time 4WD" badge from the factory.

I know mine came this way from the factory because I am the 2nd owner and the first was my folks, so we have owned the truck since new.

If it is missing my first two guesses would be PO removed it or it has had body work.

97 LX450s did not come with the 4WD badge, it only came with the 96 LX450. I have to get mine from the Toyota dealer to add it on my 97 LX450.

4x4CPOSEADOG is right, the 97 LX450 brochure I have has a picture of the back side of the truck and the only emblem I see is the lexus sign, no full time 4WD emblem present on the 1997 lx.
Weird, guess toyota thought they'd "clean up" the back side for 1997 on the lexus:cheers:

Interesting that people want to add badging on...

One of the first things I did when I got my rig was de-badge the thing....

Sort of like a war wagon!

:p

Was it a dealer installed thing? I've noticed that the '96 LCs tend to have it on the right side while the earlier ones seem to be on the left.

Yeah, it seems that more 97 don't have them. I was going thru the manual and noticed the LX450 brochure, the pic of the LC is emblemless (;)). I guess for the few that have them, it was installed by the previous owner / or as an aftermarket accessory.

Hey everyone, I read through the messages, and agree that my 1997 LX does not have the 4WD badge. I got one Toyota OEM one from eBay and was just wondering how to ensure that I stick it on the tailgate as per Factory Spec (want to make sure it is positioned correctly and not too high or too low etc.). Shall I have the boys here at Lexus put it on? Or Toyota... or does the FSM indicate where it should lay :) ? Thoughts ?

Both my '97 LC's have/had the fulltime 4WD badge.

I won't stake my life on it, but since I had annoying gold plated emblems on the LX450 I seem to recall a gaudy "FT4WD" -one on it too.

:meh:
