what's everyone using for back spacing on a black steelie wheel?...I did a search and came up with 3.75, is that stock? t

I am running 3" lifted fj40 drivetrain but will be adding rear disc's and don't want to find uot later they wont fit.

Is summit the best price and availability?

thanks

i am running 15x10 rims w/ 3.5" back spacing on my fj. iv only got like 1/4" between the inner rim lip and the stock steering arms. i got these rims thru 4-wheel parts. cost about 60buks each w/ free mounting and ballancing of the tires i had given to me from a local friend.

iv been playing around w/ diffrent calipers and such for a rear disk converson, so far seems most GM stuff will fit fine. i havnt actuly done more than hold parts up and pretend how they will fit in the end. maybe in the next few weeks ill have time to actly start cuting/welding on my axels (iv got to pick up some newer housings soon).

I will be buying 33" BFG's and I want to get a spare wheel to match the aftermarket 15 X 10's that are currently on my 79 fj40.

My best attempt to measure the backspace (with a tape measure) gave me a result of approx 3.75".

Does this seem right? Will 3.5" fit? I am aware of caliper clearance issues, but I have no idea about the steering arm situation.

Please Help!

There used to be a part number for the 15"x8" black rock crawler rims posted in the 'tech links' section of this site. I ordered my wheels using that number back in 2003 or so. They have 3.5" backspacing. They have fit both configurations I have run so far on my 72 FJ40 - stock drum axle with stock steering, and Saginaw PS with FJ60 knuckles, steering arms, and discs.

I 'think' if you go to a 16" wheel, backspacing isn't as much of an issue with respect to the steering arm clearance, but I have only ever run 15's, so don't really know.

I hear Summit is the place to get these, as they are reasonably priced and will order them with whatever backspacing you want.

The tires are already ordered, so I won't be going with the 16's any time soon. I am sure that some 15 X 8's will fit, but really want to go for a 15 X 10.......?backspace? anyone?

Oh yeah - front disks and stock axels / power steering

Always get your tires after your rims. Getting 16" or larger rims I have gathered from other's use of them eliminates the backspacing issue for the most part.

dude get 15x8 with 2.5 backspacing and forget about it

I am with camcruiser on this. I have 35x12.5's and aired down my tire will rub on the inner fender in the back loaded with people. I have Alum rims 15x8 with 3.5 BS. I will be changing to balck steelies and 15x10 with 2.5 BS.
