Eventually I'm going to swap my '71's engine with a 350 or something similar. When I do, I'm thinking about putting in an automatic transmission with the shifter on the column to maintain the original styling/look and keep the bench seat in place. Has anyone done this before, got pictures maybe? I'm assuming I'll need to swap out the column with either a GM one or maybe there's a custom one out there somewhere... mostly just posting to get the idea out there and see what people think for now. Thanks y'all.

We’re gonna try this on @jesus888 1970 project soon, with a 4l60

I used a 32” GM tilt / shift column from Speedway with their 15” GM early 1950’s truck steering wheel, Saginaw power steering in a 5.3 LS / 4l60e swap. Just google ‘FJ40 LS swap’ and a ton of information will be at your fingertips.

The part numbers will be in the threads.

The overdrive allows you to run a comfortable 2000 rpm at 65 on 33’s and stock 4.10 gears.

It’s a lot of work but worth it.
