I am not in OZ, just enjoying your thread here.
I've only just noticed for the first time that both 60s pictured here have wing windows on the front doors, never seen that before.
Was this an option?

I think the front split mirror disappeared in 87'.
Toyota decided we would like the full size better, I don't think I agree with them.

I've been a member here for 10 years, but have been AWOL for the last few.... still have (and love) my HJ60. Here it is on a recent trip with Rick O'Briens 60.

A bit late on the conversation, but some details on the 'White Lightning' from an Overlander Magazine article;

Quote from the author of the article, 'White Lightning represents one of those typical manufacturers ploys to breathe a little life into a market which is beginning to reconsider a model's desirability'. In other words Toyota were losing sales to Nissan's GQ, so they bought this model out to pickup a few more sales.

Main features were:
* Released in 1989.
* Only 150 released.
* $39,329 for the petrol model and $51,600 for the diesel.
* Mechanically the same as the GX model.
* Build number plate mounted on the centre of the dash board.
* All white paint job.
* White grille.
* White fibreglass flares.
* White Bullbar.
* White 15" wheels.
* PIAA driving lights with white bodies and lense protectors.
* Leather momo steering wheel and matching gearshift knob.
* Tinted windows.
* Electric windows.
* Electric mirrors with white bodies.
* Central locking.
* Car alarm.

That 'White Lightning' is like a taste of things to come in the 4WD scene at that time. Moving towards more bling, less utility. Still basic compared to what followed. Never seen one of those - looks smart.
Suppose I should contribute to the Aussie registry? Here we are ten years or so ago on Ben Lomond Tas when the brown was paint and not rust and before we had kids. Didn't take hours to get out the door and go bush! Esky full o'Pale and a box of matches. Missus and I would sleep on a mattress thrown in the back.

Overseas Sept 2014, in the south German forests, almost back 'home' after a five day run down from Hamburg where he had languished in a warehouse after cruise from Melbourne. Three kids in the back hence the improved camping setup.
It was funny to be let loose on the German roads amongst all the shiny stuff with a rig that had never had a roadworthy. At that time you could still buy 5 day number plates to move any wreck around Germany rego or not - mad. No longer possible since last April. I'd like to think that the trail of rust and fluids that Mr.Brown laid across Germany contributed to that law being changed!

I'll post the journey back home to Tas pics in about ten years.
