Looks like it is going to be beautiful weather, gentlemen! 80 degrees high and 60% humidity on Friday. 20-30% chance of rain and highs in the 70s over the weekend.

Post trip report. Perfect weather, good trails, no mechanical issues, lots of food, fires, and camaraderie. Hit Sierra Nevada Brewery, Hurricane Creek trail, Max Patch, one night at Round Mountain Campgroup, one night at Wolf Creek Falls (had entire place to ourselves), Martha Sundquist Park, and back to 40.

Thanks to everyone on the trip for making it memorable. It was a pleasure spending the weekend with you and yours. All of you have fun kids with such great personalities and social skills, making the me feel a little nostalgic for the days when the kids loved camping and/or hanging out with Dad :)

Looking forward to the next one. Trucks all did great, my fridge ran all weekend at 3.6 degrees C, the engine never struggled to start... No major scratches/dents or mechanical failures.... Wins all around!

And whoever said "Hurricane Creek can be done in 2WD, or with a basic unlocked, unlifted, truck" or something to that effect. The answer is not anymore.... Or at least, not if you go the way that we went. Some big obstacles that LWB or 2WD trucks would be struggling with. First time I've had the 40 with only 2 wheels on the ground - thankfully one on either side of the truck :)

James,

Is your fridge one of those EnviroCoolers? Just curious.

We did things differently this time and exited HC to I-40. There was one little ledge that was kinda slick and rutted. The rain we had leaving made it a little slick so I can see what you mean. The only issue I have was I had the carry-all basket in my hitch and it drug....a lot...lol

Not gonna speak for him but I think so. I used mine on the July trip and it was amazing. I was a little worried about space and having enough capacity for the 5 of us but it did well. I just kept the beer/water in the yeti and used the Enviro for food.

I picked up a couple of them too and Amanda uses one of them in her LX to carry cold groceries. It allows her to be able to stop by the grocery store and not have to come straight home to put away the ice cream. I've wired up a non-switched 12v DC port in the Turd and the crockpot will soon follow. They are the best $60 (each) I've spent in a long time!

We had a blast on this trip. The new shocks, rear springs, better brakes, and lower air pressure in the tires really made a difference on the rough gravel roads compared to last year. Having a small group like ours really made organization and planning much easier. We also didn't have to rely on radios that much for communication. The kids were all very well behaved, the group meals allowed us to efficiently pack food, and all the trucks did great with no mechanical issues. A nice bonus was finding a bunch of leftover firewood from a previous group at Wolf Creek Falls. The 5 hour trip there and back was well worth it.

Having a fridge in the truck makes this trip so much easier. Last year, we had a bunch of food in a cooler on ice with freezer bags. We were always concerned about the cooler leaking or the ice melting leaving the food warm. This year, our fridge was packed to the top and we never had to worry about anything. As we used food and made space, we would put drinks in the fridge. I couldn't do a trip like this with a cooler again.

I paid $100 also. Where did you get yours?

I got mine at the Goodwill in Raleigh. They advertised them on CL for $100 but when I got there I asked if that was the best they'd do so they sold me 3 for $180. I kept two and sold the third one for $60 to a buddy of mine.:meh:
