My 1994 deal of the century has 305k miles on it. I bought it for $1750, drove it, got hit and got a check for 6k... Well paid for...

It's my daily driver and has been for almost 4 years now. I drive about 20k a year for work and personal use.

I though 275-300k miles was going to be my replacement time...

Any thoughts? Anyone DD a 300k cruiser?

chtucker- when u say "replacement"- are you talking about replacing the engine, or the vehicle? If you're not asking about an engine rebuild / replacement / swap, I guess I'd ask why you aren't asking about that? These vehicles are not exactly what I'd call disposable at 300K.

If you're speaking of the vehicle, I would have a hard time replacing it until the motor had catastrophic damage or it was totalled, anything less than that and I would repair it. Furthermore, I would buy another just like it at 200K, swap out all my goodies and keep rollin.

I just bought mine with 240k miles 3 wks ago so it will be @ 400k or so before it goes. People who didn't see the mileage think it's only 150 k miles from the way it ran.

since i keep seeing ones for sale with over 300k i guess that means someone somewhere is driving them :meh:

I have a 94 with 330k miles I use as a daily driver. Never have had any problems with the engine or drivetrain. My biggest problems have either been caused by electrical or corrosion.

Electrical Problems:
- Rebuilt starter
- Rewired headlights (fuses melted in the box)
- Replaced alternator

Corrosion Problems:
- Bypassed rear heater core (pipe going back there rusted through)
- Replaced downpipe with hole
- Emergency brake doesnt work
- Rear wiper shaft seized and burnt out motor
- Spare tire always seems to be going flat

Most of the driving I do is on state highways. I routinely take it on long 1000-1500 mile trips. I don't really take it off road, but I frequently drive down forest roads of varying quailty (snowy, deep mud, hard packed, rocks in the middle of the road, big ruts, roots, etc) and occasionally pull cars out of snow banks.

Seems to me that if you keep up with the maintenance and maybe wash it from time to time these things will last quite a while! That has just been my experience anyway.

Keep the damn thing man.

My opinion on buying new cars is this: It depends on the individual. Some people like a change periodically and therefore buy more frequently than others. Some find a specific car that is their "baby" and will never get rid of it, short of totalling it. You will find a bunch of those on this forum. My thought is if the vehicle meets your needs and you are not continually looking at newer cars because you are bored with what you have, keep it and drive it until it cannot drive any longer or you do get bored or your needs change.

Have fun.
