Hi All,

Tax money came in and the :princess: agreed to an ARB locker purchase... Just one for now:mad:. I really want to make it to Rubithon so I am ready to pull the trigger on at least a rear locker, for now. :bang:

I know compressors don't really like too much heat, but how well does ARB compressors work if mounted in the engine bay? Has anyone had issues with it mounted in the bay?

I'm thinking of the CKMP12/CKMA12. Anyone have these?

Thanks...

-John

I've gone to the mini compressor (CKSA12) on the K5, this has been on the vehicle for 3+ years w/o issues; mounted under the hood, and only runs the air lockers, nothing else. For the '93, we've also installed a mini compressor, on the passenger side fender near the firewall. But the '93 is a mall crawler, so no feedback.

I've had my CKSA12 for over a year now (mounted on top the CC actuator). At first it wouldn't ever leak-down during periods non-use, but now it does. Not enough to cause it to kick in during use, so I haven't addressed the issue. I'm happy with it.

BTW, are you going to control it with the Toyota "magic" dial?

Sub'd as I'm curious too.

FWIW I think I'm going to mount it to the right of the master cylinder. There is a thread here somewhere that shows a pic of it there.

I think the RD 142 will come with it's own, but, I like the look of the factory dial. I've read reviews of the CKSA12 leak at times, although price is right. I'd lke to be able to operate the locker and have some air to air up the tires after wheeling... There's a 4x4 convention in San Mateo over the weekend so i'd like to see what kind of deals they've got. I was told that you get a compressor with a purchse of a locker.

I guess I was being paranoid on the heat under the hood. I've seen some posts here that they mount the compressor on the rear quarter panel (where the factory sub was located).

Or maybe he was just utilizing that as an air tool...

Purchased my rig already all ARB'd up (front and rear). Compressor mounted in engine bay never had a problem. Don't run it that often but so far so good.

Some vent their hoods (Pontiac or other) to help vent the bay heat, FYI.

Pics of my mount below FWIW. Good luck!

Re airing up: I don't know about the newer models as I went from the old RDCKA compressor to the mini. The mini compressor is, of course, not suitable for anything besides running the lockers. I had tried to air up my tires, 32's at the time, with the older RDCKA model. Once. Took forever, and I was becoming afraid the compressor would burn up. Never tried it again...

I have a Puma compressor for tires; I suppose I could build a manifold to run the ARBs from the Puma, but found that too cumbersome. I carry an adapter and enough blue line that I could run the rear locker from the Puma just in case.

That location would be ideal as i'm saving the spot where the radiator reservoir for a second battery set up. Well, umm, I'd like to think so:mad:

Interested to hear about the dual battery setup... didn't realize you had to move the Radiator reservoir.... the washer bottle yes...on the passenger side.. Just curious:confused:

Didn't mean to sound that way. Not moving it at all. I have a good spot behind it and it's more than enough for the 2nd battery location.

Thanks for the picture...

Is that the CKSA12?

I mounted mine in the stock jack location, rear quarter panel.
There's some pics of it in my sig line.

This is what I did as well. Easy access for air as well as an opening to the underside.
