Cat guard on the White Knuckle slider hangs down kind of low and looks like it would hang up on rocks. I'm thinking about cutting it off. The cat that's on there is tucked up high.

Do it!

Major running issues have mainly been sorted out and I began driving it some today, mainly on the farm but a short run up the road. I think the kick down cable needs adjusting and I have an intermittent recurring high idle issue. Cold the idle is ca. 6-700 but on occasion once warmed up and driven some the idle will pop up to 1200.

@cruiserinsanity bought a couple of 1980s pickups recently and we needed to pull one off the utility trailer. This '82 has a rear axle but not shafts or wheels so we used the tractor to lift the rear and then pull the trailer from under the pickup. 80 handled this short trailer towing well.

I think I'm over the hump with major issues with this 80 and it's now down to sorting out small things to make it more driveable and useable.

I suspect that it hangs low because it is the style for the '93-94 where it has a deep double cat and this is why the skid is like that. It may have a '95+ style cat so the skid could be higher. That is my situation. I've thought about cutting and modifying mine, but haven't gotten that far.

Replaced the rear lock actuator in the rear hatch yesterday. Used this part number. Now all doors and the rear hatch lock. Linkage within the upper hatch is not that difficult to unattach and reattach. Just pay attention to how the actuator bracket is oriented.

Solid work Jim, 80 looks great. Love seeing the kubota putting in work

Drove it 70+ miles today. It runs ok, not great but good enough on flat road. Current issues are that when cold idle is ca. 700 (this is good), but once warm idle may jump to 1200 or at times around 2000 (not good). Acceleration from a stop is sluggish, acceleration below 50 is sluggish, about 50 not up to good 1FZE standards. On the route today I had a couple of steepish hills and the 80 ran poorly up the hills, could hardly exceed 30. I towed a M416 loaded with new Geolanders for the 60 and on flat ground the trailer was unnoticeable.

I think I'm dealing with TPS issues. I have a new one on order and think that will clear up these issues.

My weird up/down idle issues on 97 LX was oxygen sensor wires damaged, under the truck. Fixed the wires and idle was fixed.

Make sure accelerator cable is not sticking, next time it high idle put your foot under the pedal and pull towards you and look and see if throttle body is at it stops

Finally have sorted out the poor running and idling issues with the Black Beast.

On this throttle body note that the adjustable screws have paint marks from the factory. I removed this TB from our other 80 when I did an engine swap and the adjustments on these screws should be the factory settings.

The TB on this LX450 had one screw that I think had been jacked with and was adversely affecting the idle and preventing the idle stop from fully seating as needed.

Today I installed a new TPS to FSM spec in the factory set TB and also cleaned the ISC and reinstalled with a new o-ring.

I then drove it on level ground and a nice hill. It was still a dog. Idle issues were corrected but it had low power, like less than 2F power, pulling the hill. I checked the timing and it was severely retarded so I reset. I was aiming for 7* but from a gauge the reading was 9*. Anyway the 1FZ now runs much better, good acceleration and can pull the hill.

Had't kept up on this thread.
Reading this post, Was gonna suggest advance the timing. Aussie experience is anything from 6⁰ to 10⁰ static advance can improve low to mid RPM throttle response. Just pay attention to it and listen for pinging. I'd you hear it pinging under load, back the timing off a couple of degrees

That’s excellent to read. That’s a sweet 80/LX you saved.
