Anyone have an interior spare setup and like it?

What brand and how is it configured? Pictures?

I am asking because swing outs are so expensive...unless someone knows of a more cost friendly solution than ~$2K

I love mine, but look forward to the day that I build another swing out - which is not practical because I pull a trailer often. I fabbed this one up myself using the seat mounting holes and bolts.

Have run with the spare indoors for ~12 yrs, prefer it, less chance of it being stolen, less sun damage, 37" fits, IMHO the rig looks cleaner. Made a bunch of carriers, now don't. The proper locations are in place to strap the tire down securely without the carrier. If something big needs to be hauled, simply remove the spare. I still run one of the original carriers, like this.

Do you know where I can buy one?

I fabricated an interior carrier. See the first page of my build thread in signature. Sometimes I miss the space, but I am pretty happy with it. Having this on the drivers side seems to interfere less with my view out the rear of the truck.

Here is my tire carrier. I like this design because I can take my tire out and have most of my cargo space available to haul large items. The pole just stabilizes the tire vertically. The strap is really what holds the tire securely. I installed it on the drivers side so it would not block my view when changing to the the right lane.

Had an interior carrier with my old Tahoe - hated it because it took up so much space that I could have used otherwise. Much prefer having a sleeping/storage platform instead.

I have my tire strapped in with no extra hardware, standing up on the driver's side. I have a 12 foot ratchet strap that goes over and through the tire/wheel several times, all side to side. Many years of hard wheeling and it only moved once- when the strap broke after rubbing against the sharp edge of the wheel spoke. Now I put rags over the spokes to insulate the strap. No shifting, no noise, and I have never noticed an odor. Of course, I've never put a brand new tire in there- I can imagine that would be overpowering.

Here is my none welding version.
It's made from electrical strut, it's kind of like a big boy erector set. It's not finished, but when the tire is in I strap it up a bunch of ways so it's real snug.

I've run one for the last couple years on driver side since selling my IPOR with swing out. Love the clean look of the 80 sans swing but it just consumed too much space. Mostly cause I sleep in the rig and finally added a platform and a fridge.

Just started my swing out today so it'll be headed to classifieds soon in NC

The smell wore on me

+1

Early on I did a blatant ripoff of the Slee ‘stripper pole’ design, but I was really glad to get it out of the cabin when I built a swingout bumper & later swapped it for the Hanna Quality that I still like to this day.

You’ll slap the ass on everything with a Hanna (not like you can even buy them anymore), but my black 80 is such a pavement princess anyhow, so approach angle doesn’t mean anything to me anymore.

Btw my tire is back inside now

I couldn't stand the smell of a tire in my rig all the time.

I've had mine inside for most of the time I've owned it, and except for when a new tire goes in I can't smell it. The new tire smell goes away in a few weeks. I have to admit, I enjoyed that smell, I love new tires and rarely get them. I'm sure it would get old, but it doesn't stick around long enough.
