weekend of the 27th works for me...i'll mark it on the calender.

When/where does everyone want to meet? Might be able to get that fri off if i ask off now.

All I'm saying is if you are verifying with a ranger then get his/her name since the road is not on the MVUM which is supposed to list all legal roads on FS lands open to motorized recreation, even seasonal roads. I'd hate for a newer UC'r to get in trouble.

I've been told that many places were legal and open, when they were not. You have to be careful and verify yourself.

I would most likely be a late Friday night arrival as I have about 4-5hr drive.

The berries should be ripe then, so that means tons of hippies with 5gallon buckets using the road for a hiking trial, and giving you the evil eye, the bird, yelling at you, and generaly refusing to move out of your way:mad:

so the earlier you can get there on Friday the better as camping spot are very limited and first come first serve.

Steve have you ever be up to Black Balsam Ivestor Gap road? I believe it is actually designated as FS816... It is also clealy marked on the FS trailhead information sign at the Black Balsam parking lot as a seasonal access road.

Again, I understand your conerns and I am not trying to be an ass but I don't want people being scared away because of misinformation. Delta21 and myself have both called the rangers office to verify..... Ivestor gap is a absolutely beautiful trail and I think all should enjoy.

Steve you should make this trip, so you can kick me in the nuts when we get a ticket :hillbilly:

I've been up there and hiked it last year. I hiked it b/c I wasn't sure it was legal and wanted to be safe. It looks like a lot of fun to drive and there are some nice camp spots but watch out for 'white flowers.' I never said the road was illegal, only to get a ranger's name to be on the safe side since it wasn't shown in the MVUM.

white flowers?

as for the hippies...i speak some tree hugger.

anyone game to head up there with me early on fri the 26th to snag a spot?

i forgot...hippies don't carry shovels in their backpacks.

i will look at the calendar at work and let u know. I will pick up a tent and air mattress unless wife isn't coming. If not i have an excuse to build a sleeping platform.

can we drive rigs directly to the campsite or do we have to park and hike/walk. Don't want to build a platform and not be able to use it.

I'm going call the ranger station again on monday.

Had to call into work friday to be on the set of the filming of the hunger games with my daughter which took from 6am to almost 9pm.

but...its extra cruiser money!!!

i still plan on getting the day off that friday (or leaving early) to set up camp for us.

Got any details on the Hunger Games? My wife is going ballistic over this movie coming out. She says the book or books I believe are probably some of the best she has read.

Marshall, Givans is only about 12 miles from where I live. I've never been there but heard it was nice. I did the carolina heritage preserve canoe trip a few years back. The river was nice and we stayed in one of the treehouses. very nice. Anyway if you venture out from camp let me know, I owe you a beer or dinner or possibly my first born after all your help with the 40. Would be good to see ya. Let me know if you get some time.

Canoe South Carolina, canoe Charleston, Edisto River treehouses

Can't reveal details because of a waiver of confidentiality but the scenes my daughter and I worked on were both intense and took almost 24 hours to film maybe 5 min of screen time. If the rest of the movie is like this scene it's going to be like avatar only without the crying blue apes

any news from teh ranger station? i would like to take a trip up there

the station is hard to get ahold of. Seems no one is in the office. I will keep trying all week
