My son is about to turn 1. He is outgrowing his toddler seat, and we are going to have to upgrade to a better carseat soon. I figure there has to be other wheelers here who have invested in a safe seat for their child. Im looking for something that fits well in the FJ80 and is forward facing but will provide the best support while on the trails.

Britax. It's the only brand I trust my kids in.

X2 if you plan to wheel with them they make pads for their heads. Don't get to crazy though as the size of their head is to big still for their neck. To much thrashing around can cause serious damage.

X3 Britax is the only way to go they are the best around

Was involved in a rollover when my twins were 2.5 years old. lady ran a red light and t-boned us and flipped the car.

The kids were so secure in there Britex seats they did not even cry and the seats did not even budge.

For the seats to be their most effective they need to be extremely secure, trust me I know this from first hand experience

Now that my twins are 6 my wife and I run boosters with full back and head protection from Recaro, unbelievable seats as well

Cant beat a good Britax seat

Spend the extra money and get their top model for your child, can never spend enough for their safety

Britax FTW! That's what we've used for the first 2 & will continue to use with the third when she's old enough, probably, within the next month.

The two biggest things being make sure the seat is very secured and the little one's head and neck are protected from excessive movement.

We're now looking into a booster with a full back for our oldest, he's finally hit 40 lbs.

By any chance were you in an 80 series when you flipped?

Look into the Recaro boosters, they have some of the best ratings

We use the Chicco Keyfit 30. It also fits the BOB off-road stroller, so perfect combo.

x4 on the Britax. My daughter was two at the time our rollover in our 80 and she was just fine (other than a scratch and being a bit scared). Link: https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/405093-our-new-land-cruiser-saved-our-lives.html

We have two Britax seats (1 in the 80 and the other one in the Sienna) and have been very pleased with them, other than the seat covers losing elasticity after washing them a couple of times.

Good luck!!

Not to get this sent to chat but current thinking is to keep kids rear facing as long as possible (2 years at least). We have a rear facing Britax Boulevard for my 1 year old and a Britax Frontier 85 for my 3 year old. The Frontier is always installed in my 80 with the rear tether connected to the anchor loop in the floor just behind the middle row on each side. That sucker doesn't move a mm.

FWIW I got it my daughter's car seat inspected by our local hospital and I also had the teether strap hooked to the rear cargo anchor points. My inspector said that that point was not approved for child restraint and could actually do more harm than good if we were in an accident. Just sayin

It's called CYA. Of course they will never endorse a non specified child safety anchor point. But, why wouldn't you use that? Common sense.

No idea. Older guy retired sure as hell seemed to know what he was talking about. Quoted a few studies undid my seat , redid it and it feels sturdier than I had it. Like I said just sayin

I put my money on/daughter in a Britax.

We run Recaro's (made by the racing seat mfg.) We looked at them side by side with the Britax and found that the Recaro were much more solid.

BTW, at 1 you kid should still be rear facing. Much safer.

Going to throw in a few car seat tips here. One thing that most people don't know is that if you take the seat belt and pull it all the way out, as it goes back in you will hear it ratchet and you won't be able to pull it back out. So hook it through the back and pull it out so it ratchets. This will keep the seat from moving.

Also when tightening the belts down, put your knee in the middle of the seat and push it down. This will keep the seat more secure.

Also use both the child safety straps and the seat belt. Never be to prepared
