Has anyone tracked down an aftermarket steel wheel that looks like the old stock hubcap style (not the later one) but in 16" with the proper center for the hub and clearance for discs? I'm about to just order the 15x5.5s from my local Toyota dealer but wanted to make one more run at something that looks stock in 16" I'm not planning to run the caps anyway...just gonna paint them gray and call it good. This is the wheel style I'm looking for.

You could probably get Stockton wheels to make you a set or go with 16" split rims.

I was thinking about it, but it would be upwards of $1000 and up to four weeks. They have their own stockers that would look similar if painted that color, but no hubcap clips. I'm going to call for pricing later today. Series 20:

They make beadlocks too. Widened stockers with hubcap clips and beadlocks would be pretty unique.

I've heard of either 4runner spare tire rims, or older chevys rims. Can anyone confirm if these will actually work?

4-runners will have lots of backspace, probably 4.5". With stock axles you want 3.5" so you'd need spacers. Chevy rims almost always have too-small center holes.

As per Stockton:

Build 5 16x6" using your centers (painted silver) = $1018.35 delivered.
Build 5 16x6" 20 series (painted silver0 = $968.35 delivered.

(delivery to NY by the way)

YIKES!!!!!

woytovich, did they seem to know the DIMs of the stock Toyota wheels or is this something you would have to supply? I've read a few threads about people ordering this or that and impinging their tie rod or having to bore out the centers. 900+ is crazy expensive but if they come painted and work, that's not too much more than new stock + paint. I'm not planning to run caps so I don't care about the clips. Can you post the contact. Thx!

Stockton 20s

Just looked at the Stockton Heavy Truck 20s and they seem pretty close.

Next question is does anyone have the relevant dimensions to make these tuck in under the wheel wells just like stock 15s? Getting the backspacing right seems like it could be tricky. Fast Eddy posted 3.5" above...is that all they need to know? I could throw a caliper on the center of my current rims for the hub clearance. I'm no expert here, so this could be a stupid questions. Appologize in advance!

You know there is a 16" non-split option from Toyota right?

The part number is definitely in the 45 section.

Dan

Not using the part number I found there... not with my dealer here in NY (who is pretty good about odd part numbers)

42610-60021 is the number

...and 6 weeks.

They had at least four 16x8 20 series with 4" backspace in stock. Something like $179 each. Pretty pricey for steel.

3.5 or maybe 3.75 backspace with the 1/2" wider rim. 16x6 could be made to work with the right tires, but that size will be hard to find too unless you're looking at bias ply skinnies. You need a 33x9.5-16 or equivalent. and even those will rub a bit on a stocker.

Toyota Discontinued

I believe the 16" Toyota wheels were non US market wheels. And I believe they have been discontinued.

I would also be interested an a reasonably priced option for 16" stock looking wheels. I have considered taking a set of split rims and putting new rims on the center. I presume that is what Stockton quoted above for a bit over $1000.

I'm talking to Stockton about placing an order of 50 wheels (10 sets of 5). They are working up a better per wheel price... I'll report back.

Do you think we could get 10 people ready to buy a set of 5?

Mark

Ok... if we can put together a pre-paid order for 50 wheels we can get them for $135 each (a set of 5 for $675) plus shipping from CA to you. (they had quoted me about $40 each to ship from CA to NY)

This is for 20 Series steel at 16x6, 3.5" BS and land cruiser 6 on 5.5 bolt pattern...

I'm in for 5...

Anyone interested in making a verbal commitment now? If we can approach 10 people I'll formalize the group buy and post it elsewhere here on mud...

Mark

woytovich, I'd be in for a set of 5. What do you think about asking them to do them in the cruiser gray color, instead of silver or whatever they normally do? Seems like it should be totally straightforward to have them powder coated in the OEM gray.
